Keep it or chuck it: Galaga Filter Boards

Do people who do restores want that part to be present? I say chuck it. Filter boards are nothing but trouble.

I'm using a Jr Pac filter board so I can run it in my Gaplus cabinet ;) It's one of the DC versions for the Mappy style cabs. The board itself has the same pinout as the field conversion board for Pac-Man cabs (without the AC/DC conversion section), but they had a filter board that changed the pinout to fit in the Mappy cabs. They had to add a wire for down (it uses the door button for up), so I had to run a couple jumper wires to make it work for up and down in the Gaplus pinout, since it was different. So at least a filter board can be useful for something :D

I have no idea what you're saying but I find it fascinating they can be useful for anything.

Mappy and Gaplus have similar pinouts (They're the same with the exception of up and down, which Mappy doesn't use). Most Midway games use a filter board, but the filter board for the Jr Pac boards in the Mappy factory conversions also change the pinout to Mappy (and added the up/down). Using this filter board, that Jr Pac board plugs right into my Gaplus cabinet, so I can play Jr on it. Make sense now? :)

Mine still has the filter board, Even if it causes troubles. Why? It keeps those freaking Cage rabbit ears in check. Laughs.

Just the way I roll.

Sell it for something that you can use. Don't chuck it make some money on it and buy parts or something useful.

I can kinda see some utility in the Star Wars filter boards, since they help secure the boards nicely into the cage.

The filter boards for Galaga are pretty pointless, IMHO. At least they're not as horrible as the Pac ones, and it's actually possible to get the game to work correctly with them, but still, I'd say chuck it.

That said, I'm not sure why anyone would want to BUY a Galaga filter board, unless they want to use it to make an adapter out of or something.

Yep! Got it now. Sweet! It's basically an adapter.

I agree, most games have the filter boards pinned out straight through and you can simply remove them. Some need them because it reroutes the pins. A dedicated JrPac wont run without the filter board without changing the pinout on the harness.
If you can remove the filter board it should be removed. Its just one more set of connections that can go bad and cause problems.
