Karate Champ - Thumbs up or down?

I got a new board last night (Soul Calibur) so I didn't end up messing with the MAME cab. I'll copy Karate Champ over to the vert cab tonight and see if it works for me.
Not sure if there is something odd about it other than the fact that it used two 4 way sticks. I know I have Black Widow, Rescue, Robotron and other twin stick games working no problem.

EDIT: OK, I got a break from work this morning so I tried it. I set it up the standard way I mentioned above and it works fine with the Suzo sticks. They feel much more precise than a standard 8 way, so maybe that is the problem when playing with Happ Comps or some other microswitched 8 way?

This is such a great game, I can't believe I forgot about it when I made up a list of vert games I wanted on the cabinet.

You need 4-ways to even attempt a good representation of the game.

I have a set of KC sticks in a box waiting to be added to the MAME cab. If I ever find a cheap KC, I think I will add it to the collection. I remember it being pretty fun. I tried it with the wrong sticks in MAME, and it was ok, but not great. Maybe I should move that project up on the to do list, now I want to play.

loved this game. spent many hours playing it and is definitley one i'd like to add to my room some day. the fact that you guys say they're cheap to find, makes it as the more plausible i will have one in the near future

I played a ton of Karate Champ as a kid, but as an adult I haven't played it much, probably mostly because I never see them working! I still prefer it over newer fighting games and even find myself quoting from it from time to time.

I have a spare and good condition Karate Champ boardset for sale cheap if anyone wants it. I believe it may be a bootleg since the board differs from Deco boards shown on the Web. A quick search also showed a bezel and marquee for it (both bootleg too).
