The replay value of KFM is very low, though...
I respectfully disagree, after the 1st loop it gets much more fun to replay
I remember playing this back in the day and always being frustrated. I tried it in MAME a few months ago and was still frustrated. Just never really 'got' this game.

The board I have is a pain in the ass and so is the control panel setup.

The NES version of Karate Champ is horrible. Nothing like the arcade game.
Small hint to get you through a bunch of boards- flip over and then jumping back kick... FULL POINT!
The game sucks in MAME. The joystick play of a dedicated machine cannot be replicated.

I've run it on my modded xbox and mapped the controls to use both analog sticks to replicate, just not the same but playable....

I'm going to try it on MAME tonight. I have a vert cab with dual inductive Suzo sticks. I don't see why it won't play great, everything else does, but curious now. Haven't played it in a long time.
Played it every wknd at our regular campground. Thought many times abt getting 1.
I simply cannot figure out how to set the controls so that the sticks do what they're supposed to...
For twin stick games, MAME just lists the sticks as left and right.
Using Robotron as an example, you would hit TAB to get into the control setup screen then map the following inputs:
Left/Left
Left/Right
Left/Up
Left/Down
Right/Left
Right/Right
Right/Up
Right/Down
The first item listed is the stick, the second is the direction.
Right... Well, maybe I should have prefaced that saying that I was very familiar with how to set/change the controls in MAME, but for some reason they don't work right with Karate Champ... And I also tried setting them for Crazy Climber, both with the LEFT/RIGHT set as LEFT/RIGHT, etc. No dice...
If you have KC working on your MAME, can you pretty please send me the .cfg file for it? I just can't seem to get it to work to save my life.
