I just picked up a dead Karate Champ. After a couple of quick fuse checks I found one to be bad so I replaced it. The Marquee lights up and the game plays blind. I checked the monitor which is a WG 19 K4900 there is no glow in the neck board, the fuse on the board tested good and I checked to make sure power was a go as well. I tred reseating the neck board and still no glow and no monitor. Any ideas? Thank you for your time and talents.

its broke lol.. check the hot to see if its shorted... unfortunately i havent had to play with nearly as many 4900s as i have k7000s

lemme go check, i MIGHT have a working one(might need caps)

ok i have a 19" 4900.. vertical mount. iirc it worked fine but might need caps...

was working before i moved now the neckboard is cracked..

i will fix it tonight as i need to start going through my monitors anyways and let ya know..

If it works, $50 for chassis, $75 for whole thing mild mild commando burn

(could really use the tube to swap into one of my op wolfs as one has horrid screen burn)

it lives... pic is a little scrunches on t he left side and its blooming a little so its going to need caps but its drawing a decent picture and has all colors so with caps, you should have a good monitor.. take the whole thing tube n all $50...

whys that?? :D

jason and i know each other heh.. he was here for my housewarming and helped me break in the cades at our new place...

BTW - let's start this thread over the way it SHOYULD have started after the first post.

AHEM!

K4900's don't usually have catastrophic failures like other chassis types. Put a cap kit in, and reflow all the cold solder you'll find, and it'll probably come up.

If not, then we can move on to other problems...

I'll cap the one from mike and this one at the same time and let you know the results. Now to order me up some caps or pick through the large box in my garage.

Thanks again Mike for all your help. It'll let you know how the new k4900 works out after I get home.

whatever you have to tell yourself mod :D i knew we were hosed when i looked at the ferrite part and it was all cracked.... it makes a hell of a bizzing arcing smokeshow... real neat to watch but couldnt leave it powered too long cuz we didnt want to smoke the hot and such.. I really like those 4900s.. nice and simple, well laid out...

hehe other then that looks good tho so i think hes gonna find another cheap chassis and through on.. or worst case fix, new flys only 29 for these now...

Considering that I have only ever had one flyback go bad on these, it's not usually the first thing one thinks of when working on a 4900...

Well here's a pic of it with the working 19K4900 I picked up from mike.

I need to switch the yoke around so the picture is right side up. lol Then I'll do a cap kit to get rid of that streaking unless that just an adjustment?

turn down the gains and cutoffs itll go away but like i said its so touchy that i guarantee itll need caps..

mister "im just going to put it in and leave it alone" :D
