I know this was covered back in 2008, but no answer was given...

Bought a really good Kangaroo dedicated cab last week from Lonny. First play off the truck had the background music on level one. After clean up and move into the house, the background music was gone. I remember the music from my youth, so I know it is a part of the original game, but can't find anything in the manual about it playing (or not playing). Yes, the music plays during the sound check. Curious if there is a service mode I kicked this into which removes the music. Thought maybe it was because I had it on freeplay dip settings, but quarters doesn't bring it back.

Any ideas?

Mine is in storage at the moment, so I can't check. Have you looked at YouTube videos? Or pulled it up in MAME?

necrobump, for sure, but just an FYI in case anyone else wonders about this someday.

There is a brown jumper wire in the PCB harness, right at the edge connector, that acts as a DIP switch to enable/disable the background music during gameplay. It runs from "C" to "18" (GND).

By default, the jumper is present, = NO background music

If you cut the jumper, background music will play.

This is not called out anywhere in the manual or schematics (other than the schematics showing the jumper, but not defining its function). The self-test screen (and corresponding manual page) shows you the status of the jumper (0 or 1), but again doesn't define its function.

MAME has a DIP switch setting for this, but it's default value is the opposite of the cabinet. So, a factory Kangaroo will not have background music but a fresh MAME install will.
