Ok, so this monitor worked well before the repair, just needed a new fly as it would go out of focus during play. Replaced the fly, gave it a cap kit, soldered the questionable joints.. Monitor fires up, but I'm getting a verticle black bar going down the left side of the monitor.

I followed the wells service guide on how to fix the issue, it's a black wire that goes around the fly and is soldered to the chassis. Swapped it both ways, no change.. The original fly was badly cracked once removed so I can't reinstall it.

Anyone have a clue? All voltages are spot on.. Picture is near perfect except for the bar..

Please help.

Do you have a connector going to a transistor that is mounted to the frame on the back right corner? If so, is it plugged in? If you plug it in backwards, it will cause black space on both sides and the horizontal width won't adjust...

I do have it plugged in. As for it being backwards, not sure.. I'll have to look. But there is only a black bar on the left side of the screen, not both.

Game isn't here, so please bare with me.. I grabbed the chassis and brought it back to my bench as the whole game is just to big to cart from the guys house..

Adjusting the horizontal is a mess..Doesn't adjust well or really at all. So you may have figured out the issue! Weird though, as I took pictures of the chassis before I pulled it.. Just so I'd remember where everything goes.. Have a pretty clear shot of that tranny on the frame.. Hope your right.. But I'm almost positive it was plugged in correctly..

Just looked at the photo, white/red/black from left to right.. So the tranny was plugged in correctly :(
Maybe it's shorted? Course it's still in the frame at the guys house..

Has to be something you have done,......I would have bet you ran the black wire backwards around the iron core of the fly, but you say you tried it both ways?????

Black Wire

Now I'm confused.. (doesn't take much, heh)

I've got the black wire soldered to W190. It then wraps around the the right side of the fly, if your looking at the chassis with the AC closest to you and on the left. The wire then goes through the fly (right side) then out the back and takes a right. Then through the black metal panel to R812. When read the wells document, it says to flip the wire.. So all I did was unsolder it and flip the wire.

What am I missing?

You can't just flip the ends....you have to run the wire around the iron core on the left side of the fly and around the iron core.

fixed it!

brought the chassis back to the owner and installed it in the game without the black wire soldered down.. instead i hooked up an alligator clip to the end closest to the fly.. had to wrap it around the fly a few different ways (like 6) before getting it to finally work 100%!! soldered it down and now the monitor looks amazing!

Guy started jumping up and down and screamed! As he was so happy to get it working again.. thankfully he only lived a few miles from my house, so trips back and forth trying to fix this thing wasn't bad.. Man, that black wire is a problem.. i installed it exactly the way it was stock, and it didn't work.. eh, whatever.. guy even tossed me an extra $40 on top of the parts bill.. this was a favor for a friend, so i only charged him parts and a little for my time..

Thank you to everyone that helped me in this repair!
