Thanks again for everyone's help with my previous yoke questions...

I installed the monitor in my Max Force / Area 51 combo last night.

When I powered everything up, had some rainbow colors around the edges of the screen. Figuring it was a degauss issue I looked around the chassis and realized the degauss wires were just hanging from the monitor (not hooked up)

I powered down, hooked up the degauss wires and powered back up, but no difference...

What would you do to correct? Think a degaussing wand would correct? Anything else I can try? Will time eventually fix it?

Here is how it looks after being powered up for 5 minutes:

I bought a degaussing coil this year to fix a prob that looked just like that. Worked great for me.

Why is the red showing up as blue? That would be one heck of a gauss issue.

If you let the monitor power down, and cool off, the degauss will kick in the next time it powers on. You already had it up and running, so it didn't have the opportunity to cool off.

I don't get it either... During game play, its only noticible on the top 25% of the screen... Which its why I am thinking its degauss....

As for power down and cool off.... haven't tried it again since I shut it off... Will try that tonight.

That would probably work. If you have a big drill it'll work too, one of the old ones with an electric motor in it. Any big electric motor will work... or a soldering gun (the type with the trigger).

The degauss circuit in these like Peale said only works when the monitor's been off for a while, and it just slightly zaps the monitor when it first comes on. That's if yours is even working. It's tough to fix bad degauss issues with the on-board circuit, it usually doesn't get better over time.

Another thing that might work: turn the game on, then spin it around while it's turned on. Sometimes the earth's magnetic field will mess with the colors and if it gets fixed, turned the game off, let it sit for a while, then move it back where it was. Turn it on again and it may be fine.

Which one did you buy? Any links online?

I bought one off amazon but the real bob Roberts sells one. I remember him being the better price but had already ordered it and was to late to cancel.

Oh yeah forgot to mention mine was a k7000 monitor too. Btw Buffett is kind of a k7000 mr miagi and he said never use a magnet because it can magnetize the monitor. I'm sure the point can be argued either way but I have read that many times. I rearrange my games quite often and the position of the machine does play a big part in those kind of symptoms. But if u move it all you gotta do is zap it with one of those coils and your done :)

This seems to have rectified the color issue! Powered it on today and everything was fine!

Here it is tonight:

it is true you should never use a magnet.

it does not degauss at all it just moves the problem and can/will cause more problems.

a degassing coil or wand is not a electromagnet. it has no iron core

it alternates AC current thus becoming a reverse magnet in a way.

it DE-Magnetizes your monitor because your monitor has become Magnetized.

hence DEgauss or DEmagnetize.

this is the best way i can try to explain it.
hope it helps.

Peace
Buffett
