k7203 continuous clicking sound... already recapped

At Buffets recommendation I am starting new thread to get help with my chassis based from this original thread: <forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=260617>

It has already been recapped and replaced flyback. Power enters chassis but does not make it to the monitor yoke.

This is for a dedicated Bump n Jump cabinet with a 19" monitor and K7203 wells gardner chassis.

I am having this problem now with a K7203 in my dedicated Bump N Jump arcade

I'm glad you were able to get yours fixed, but now Im having the same problem haha and dont have an extra chassis :(

I know my way around electronics but not with arcades, I have already recapped the chassis and replaced the flyback and still have the clicking sound. I am not too familiar with the HOT and could you walk me through the steps to check it, i have a multimeter and soldering station at home and just need to be pointed in the right direction. I also managed to get a schematic of the chassis and really want to fix this problem so i can keep playing my games lol

it should test the same as a K7000.

to test the H.O.T. put your meter on diode or continuity test.
black lead on the center leg of the H.O.T. and red to both outside legs.
.400 ish on the outer legs is what you want to see.

should be part # 2sc5297 location Q503. it will be on one of the large heat synks.

Thanks Buffet, as soon as i get home i will test the HOT. I appreciate your help and will post my readings here later tonight!

no prob.

good luck on the repair.

i would start your own thread so more advice can be had from other members.

check my videos out in my sig, there is lots of good repair stuff on my channel to watch.

post your results for the H.O.T.

this is the most common problem when a chassis just ticks.

also check C600 for a short. if i am rite on this it is a poly cap near the H.O.T.
it also will cause the chassis to tick if it is shorted.

again i think this chassis has that cap. it may also be labeled C60? check them all for shorts in that area.

Thanks again for the additional information, im home now but just got off duty and havent slept in 24 hours ha ha. I will definitely post my finding tonight and toss up a few pics if that helps at all for others who may want to test similar components :)

So after putting multimeter to the board it does seem the parts are shorted... i will check again tomorrow just to make sure i probed correctly and didnt missread the multimeter... then order some replacements :)

if you find a part shorted pull it off the chassis and check again.

sometimes when they are in circuit they can give a false reading.

i had a chassis just like this with the same problem he is having.

C600 was shorted and keeping the chassis in shutdown.

i replaced that and one other resister that smoked and i was back in business.

Thats true I have too and the HOT be good!

yup exactly what happened to me.

lets hope he is lucky and the H.O.T is still good.

I did a continuity check as in your youtube video's and the HOT had constant beep and read shorted when red lead on either outside leg. continuity check on c600 seemed normal so i am thinking its the HOT after all. i will desolder in the morning to make sure its the HOT then i will be ordering a new one.

any recommendations from where to order replacement parts?

if i worked on them more i would stock them. but i do not get many in for repair.:(

i would order from Bob Roberts. www.therealbobroberts.net you will have to send him a check or money order but he should have the part.

let's hope this is it and you are back in business.
