I've done cap kits on several monitors, but I'm replacing the flyback on my K7100. This is my first flyback replacement. These are probably stupid questions, but I'd rather ask than tear something up.

The flyback has a red and black wire coming off of it that go to the neck board. The black wire goes into a plastic housing (for lack of better term). It looks like I might be able to pry this housing open to get to the wire end. Does the plastic housing open?

The red wire goes to a pin on the neck board. Anyone know what type of connector this is? I've got some insulated butt splices around and found one that fits the pin. Is this a suitable replacement, or hack, for the connector?

Thanks in advance.

You don't remove any wires from the flyback. Any flybacks you purchase will have the wires you need to connect to the neckboard and chassis.

Correct. The wires from the flyback go to the neck board. On my neck board, the existing black wire goes into some type of plastic house. The new black wire will need to go into this plastic housing. The existing red wire attaches to a pin via a connector. The wire ends are bare on the new flyback...no connector for the red wire to attach to the pin. I can even see the end of the exsting black wire, hence the question if they plastic housing it runs into on the neckboard opens somehow to.

Cut the connector on the red wire that goes on the neckboard pin and splice it to the red wire on your new flyback. As for the black wire depending on the type of neckboard you have the white plastic housing either swings open to release the black wire or you pop the top off and unsolder the wire. You then either insert the wire and slide the locking piece down or solder the wire to the pin inside of the plastic housing and slide the top back on.

Thanks for your help. Got the flyback, hot and cap kit done today. Monitor looks great....at least once I remembered to plug the remote board back in!
