I pulled the board off the yoke of my wgk7000 series a bit ago. It made some creaking noises. When i got it off i noticed that some of the plastic on the yoke was broken, and it was discolored. Toasty brown. Also the pins sticking out of it look like they have been hot too. The monitor is working properly for the most part (needs a cap kit)

So what caused (or is causing) the heat? Should i be concerned?

The heat is due to use. The tube generates heat while on and that heat eventually transfers to the parts around it.

You shouldn't be concerned about the heat damaging the guide pins or the housing.

I kind of figured that was the case. I just wondered though as most of my other machines are much older and with worse looking monitors, yet they don't show the heat signs like this one.

Thanks for the info!

I'm glad you asked this, kcfreeloader! I just found the same broken plastic bit on my 25K7184's tube this weekend. Now I can commence not worrying about it.

[BTW, I think that portion of the CRT is called the "neck". The "yoke" is the wound wire assembly further up the neck, where the tube start to get wide.]

Yeah, i kinda thought i was calling it the wrong thing in the back of my mind. What machine are you working on? Mine is a World Rally in a 3-Koam cabinet.

the heat is caused from current flowing through the coil.
they may look like toast however still be in working order.

A Lethal Enforcers that had been converted to Police Trainer.

I'll be re-capping the monitor chassis as soon as I finally order it from Bob Roberts. I keep putting off ordering to wait and add "just one or two more things" to the list (to save on shipping). As a result, I never get around to placing the order...
