k7000 tube swap, help with issue

k7000 issues...

Ok! So I pulled the chassis and put another I had tee'd up for another project. Turned it on and instantly much better.

Still some vertical (actual horiz since it's vert orientation) size issues (minor) but given my last experience with that coil, I'll leave it for now.

Also some color adjustments needed when I have a second pair of eyes to help, but all in all good to go!

Yes, I'm learning these things are hit and miss and worth alot of tinkering. I'm learning alot, and pleased to be getting my monitors in top shape.

Appreciate all the help - I'm sure there will be more questions in the future!

And now, on my other chassis that I broke the coil off, I think I'll venture into my first proper soldering adventure :)

thx

It looks magnatized. Just leave it alone till tomorrow and when you power it on hopefully the deguasser takes care of that. The deguasser normally only works once a day.

If it doesn't, check your degauss coil wiring. Not sure if that came over and fitted into the different chassis ;)

It doesn't just work once a day, it works again if you leave power off for a bit, say 1 hour or so.

But more likely, the degauss is not wired up yet.

Ok, I'll try it out. Pretty sure the degauss is wired up. This is the line around the tube that fits into the larger two-prong plug right on the chassis, yes? There's also the ground wire which I also have connected....

Ok, couldn't quite leave it alone until tomorrow, had another quick look. Looks generally ok to me, apart from some color adjustments. I'm curious what you guys think looks magnetized? Or what the symptoms of it not being degaussed are?

I've attached a few photos from when I just turned it on now for you guys to see if it has improved or still appears magnetized. Thanks!

Yeah, I can see that. Funny story, I'm red/green color blind. Even funnier that I'm a designer. Thus probably while I'm stumbling a bit on this :)

In any case, I used my wife's eyes to confirm. I pulled the game out, and at a certain angle, the colors were basically perfect. Then when I rotated it to push it in, they changed a bit and washed out and got a bit green. Why would it do this - a weird shifting thing due to magnetization?

I've attached a 'before' and 'after', kindof. You can kinda see what's going on.

If this is a degauss issue - I'll do as advised and leave it for awhile, and check it tomorrow night. I checked the wiring and the degauss plug is on there, although does it matter if the plug is flipped or not? I think I just plugged it in without confirming anything else - assuming it didn't matter how it went on.

Thx

You wiring is right and yeah, it just needs to deguas. Common issue from moving games around. You do amazing restore work for being color blind my friend. I never would have guessed.

Ah, appreciate that Kev. Been enjoying it!

For fun, here's some progress on a few other restores.

One is my Super Hang On. Major-league bitch to restore. That cowling kicked my ass. As you know, I accidently necked-the tube. But now it's crystal clear after I swapped it. The cabinet is definitely not 100% but I'm pretty pleased with it overall.

The other is my Ms Pacman. Total restore. And I'm liking the CP front decal which is a new add-on I found. But otherwise 100% original stuff.

Next up is a Frogger, Popeye and DK!

cheers

Wow, that ms pac is beautiful, cpo is sweet. That hang on would be super cool sitting next to my outrun and afterburner. I'm still shocked by what you turned that beat down smash tv cab into.

So to follow up on this. I've left the game for a day or so, still doesn't seem to want to degauss. Any thoughts - should I buy a degauss coil? Is there an 'easy' way to degauss manually and see if it holds?

Hmm, your deguasser may not be working on that chassis. You don't have the cab near big speakers right? There's suposed to be a way to deguas it using a soldering iron but I haven't seen it done. Maybe someone here knows or there may be a video somewhere. Otherwise, yeah you may néed to get a hand held degausser. They run around $40-$50 on ebay.

Nope, not near any speakes, but in between a Gorf cabinet and a Missile Command cabinet.

I'll have another look at the degauss wire and ensure it's all plug in and good, but I haven't really messed with it and I know it's plugged into the chassis.

I'll also scope out a degauser. Might be worth having on hand anyway...

If you unplug it and check it with a meter, it should show as a dead short. It's basically just a piece of wire wrapped around the tube. If it doesn't work, the issue is probably going to be with the chassis.
