Well I had what I thought for the longest time was a board failure in my Capcom Bowling. It turns out after swapping boards around that it is something with the 19" K7000. Here's a quick pic of the distortion (sorry it's a bit blurry) and you can see that it's got waves/distortion near what would be the top of the crt (vertically mounted) that clear up the lower you go. It's already been capped and even a new flyback and I've tried the adjusting it out with even the 50/60hz but nothing seems to effect it. Anyone ever seen something like this? It usually isn't something that happens at first, but after the monitor has been on for a few minutes, but I've also seen it go away with a few power cycles.

I had that same problem, although not quite that bad, on my 25" k7000 in my Off Road. I just walked in from cap kitting it and it's working fine now.

synk or a dirty/broken/cold solder pot maby?

Looks like this might have been it. :) Thanks for the replies guys. I took the chassis apart and took a look at thing because the problem didn't always occur at start up so I questioned my previous cap and flyback replacement. I have to shake my head at how rough my previous work was done (we all gotta start somewhere ;)) so I cleaned up any solder joints I had missed the first time and double checked my work. So far so good though I do have a very minor curl along the top, it's good enough for now. I did notice that adjusting the horizontal hold that I have a real narrow sweet spot for the adjustment to get good or close enough. I'm thinking I need to order a selection of pots from Bob to keep on hand.

probably a dirty pot if you have a real small sweet spot range.
i would replace it and call it a day.

that way you know it wont fail on you in the middle of a game.

Sounds like a good excuse to order a small batch of pots to have on hand. :)

are your pots on a remote board or are they onboard? because if its got the standard square remote board, chad sells new remote boards for just a little more than it costs just to buy the pots.

This model doesn't have a remote board unfortunately. :( That was really frustrating when I had just put the game back in the row and suddenly my horz position pot had gone out of wack. Luckily a small mirror allowed me to find it and get it back in line.

While we're talking about pots, has anyone tried any kind of cleaner for them? I have some stuff from Rat Shack that I'm pretty sure you can use for just that. I may have to make more of a habit out of cleaning the pots at least when I work on a chassis. I've been burned two other times chasing my tail on a stupid pot failure whether dirty or physically bad.

i have always used a test tube on the bench after i repair one. and let it run for a couple hours after a repair.

also i always test all the pots even on the neck board. i turn them back and forth a couple times wile its off and when its running to find any problems they mite have.

but that's just what i got into a habit of doing.

i have been burnt a time or two as well when repairing someone elses chassis and could not do that. leaving and having to come back is kinda of a pain and wasted gas.

curl monitor

usually when you have a curl on a wells it has to do with sync. pots rarely go bad.
If you have two sync wires connected to pins 9 and 10 on your video hook up, try moving or take out pin 9 sync and leave only 10 in. This should do it. Otherwise in reverse if their is only one, try jumping 9and 10 together. Also if the sync is in next to the video wires, move them to pins 9 and 10 or just 10 instead of 5 and 6.
