I have a K7000 25"er that was in the NEOGEO I picked up recently. Pre-capkit it had jail bars mostly on the right side... color was iffy at best... and there was a strange "wave" going on at the right... covered about 25% of the screen or so.... you could see vertical lines from top to bottom that did a strange "wave" motion from left to right which caused the image on screen to move a bit as well.

Well, I re-capped her last night. Plugged her all in and...

The monitor looks GREAT... the jailbars are gone, the color is much more vibrant, and even the wave is MOSTLY gone... I'd say it reduced the severity of the wave by about 80%...

...but it's still there. It's not too bad... my wife thinks I am crazy... but I can see it... and being the anal bastard I am my eyes go right to the wave when I fire the cab up. The vertical "lines" are now only there when I turn up the screen enough... but they are still moving in a wave (and no, I'm not talking about the normal screen lines when you turn up the screen pot too much).

Any ideas? Something to ignore and move on?

Ah... if anyone can help me out as to where the VR is and where I can order one...

?

Thanks!

If you have the ability to check the filter cap, that would be a good idea too.

Unless, of course, you changed it with the cap kit already...

What's the deal with the K7000 models?

I see a lot of talk about the K7000 on here, and I used to have one myself in my SF2 cab.

Is this particular model known for having many issues?
Is it because it's a very common monitor for games that use 25" monitors?
or both?

The problem I had with mine, and I even posted it on here on my restore thread. It had a rolling problem at the top, because it didn't take a liking to my xxxx-in-1 jamma board. I've heard that this monitor is very very picky. Thanks to Friz and Caddilacman, I was able to tone it down some to where it wasn't too bad. But it eventually started to bother me to where I got fed up with the damn thing, and gave it away.

This is what Bob has to say about the filter cap:

Another component in the B+ power supply above is the filter C55... a 560uf200v cap. A frequently asked question pertaining to the B+ filter is does it come in a typical cap kit. The simple answer is no. The main reason that B+ filters are not included in any sort of cap kits on the market is that it would make them cost prohibitive for a shotgun type repair. These filters are usually still good & they really ham it up when bad with unmistakable symptoms such as the postage stamp pic, violent weaving of the pic or the proverbial black bar rolling thru the pic.

I'm not experiencing "violent weaving" by any stretch... I'm guessing I should start with the VR... or simply ignore it as it's really only noticeable during static screens like the high score lists, etc... and even then, only by anal S.O.B.'s like myself.

;)

neck board

make sure the little cap on the neck board is good that caused my waving but mine was on the left, the only waving on the right I have had was caused by interference from another game if it is but up next to another game you might try moving it to a different spot.

Neckboard cap was replaced when I did the cap kit... and it's current sitting in the middle of the room with nothing next to it.

Ok... does the fact that the Hula seems to get better as the monitor heats up indicate the VR or filter cap?

I would say it's probably a combination of both. I say replace C57 if that doesn't clear it up then replace the Voltage Regulator. The votage regulator is going to be the transistor that's bolted to the large heatsink next to the width coil. It should have a part number of STR30130 or STR3013.

Take a look at the flowchart.

These monitors are champs, the reason they come up so much is because they were probably the most used monitors by the industry so there's a lot of games out there with these. I would have kept the tube and sold the chassis then bought a universal chassis from Alva with the money from that sale.

C57 is part of the cap kit... it's new. Looks like I'll need to come up with some other stuff I need from Bob in order to get this VR....
