Guys,

I can't find cheap retrace caps and I need a bunch. it's supposed to be 6100pF 1500V. My question is, would a 6800pF work or is that going to cause a problem? it's one of the components marked by an * in the component list, which says you must use an exact replacement or else....

Thanks for any guidance you can provide!
John

that is one of the most crucial parts of that chassis, it needs to be an exact match or it won't work right.

Bob Roberts sells a replacement, it's not a 4 leg type though and you have to jumper the two halves of it. he shows how to do it.

Bummer. I just ordered a bunch of 6800s. What about 6200pF....surely that would work?

I saw bob's and I do order stuff from him frequently. But in the quantity I use parts I can't afford to throw away $7 for a 50 cent capacitor (or what should be a 50 cent capacitor anyway IMHO).

I agree that $7.00 a pop is steep.....but.....this is not a $.50 cap. It's an extremely high voltage polypropylene cap. Polypropylene caps are...just...expensive....and the higher the voltage, the more expensive. I doubt you'll find this cap for less then $5.00 in quantity......maybe $3.00 neighborhood in MAJOR quantity.

I hate buying/needing polypropylene caps because of the expensive, but it is what it is.;)

Ok, thanks. You know, I've got about 20 junk 7000 chassis....maybe I'll just strip them all of the C36 and call it a day.

I'll just return the 6800s.

BTW, I just called it a 50 cent part because mouser sells 6800pf 1600V polypropylene caps for about 50 cents....so I figured if there WAS a 6100 it would be about the same.

There's no such thing as a junk K7000 chassis (unless it's smashed into a million pieces). There are just repair guys who can't fix them...

Well, you could connect 61 100pF 25V capacitors in series...

What about K7000As with shot flybacks? ;)

-E- Mouser must've just got these in today... Oof, look at that minimum quantity though!

Good one. Well, this is true. I guess I categorize anything that is:

a) a Zenith chassis with the irreplaceable flyback
b) rusty / nasty
c) already half stripped of parts

as a junk chassis. But I suppose they could all be brought back if necessary.

Can't you just combine 2 capacitors in parallel that add to 6100pf?

I didn't search, but surely you can find 2 cheap caps (less than $0.50 each) whether that's a 1,500pf and a 4600pf or some other combo of more popular values that make 6100pf when combined.

Thought about it and tried. Nothing adds up to 6100 as far as I can find (other than 6 1000s and 1 100). I can get to 6000 and 6200, but not 6100.

I've since found them at Happ and a couple other places for less than Bob. But still like $5 or more.
