k7000 recapped and reflyed now just line through screen

Damn it I just spent a couple hours recapping and replacing the flyback on my k7000. Now upon firing it up Im just getting a purple line through the screen and nothing else. Not sure what the issue could be ;-(

Would this be considered vertical collapse and the flashing the lighting effect?

yeah....thats loss of verticle deflection.....probably due to the verticle IC going out, but you need to test the diode in that circuit and also the 25vdc...if its to high, the new IC will not last long so its better to repair it before you waste the cost of a new verticle ic just to have it fry a few hours later. Also there is a small cap by the heat sink that needs to be replaced most likely. good luck....

My guess is if you had deflection before your fly died then you probably lifted a solder pad somewhere in the vertical circuit while recapping it. Go over your solder work again and see if anything looks suspect.

The fly never failed I just replaced it to futureproof the chassis the picture was just a bit dark.

I did in fact lift one pad on c48 however It was still intact and was able to solder to it then hot glue it to prevent it from lifting. Checked continuity and it had a solid connection to the circuit.

Is c48 in the vertical circuit?

Is is c48 in the vertical circuit?

Yes, comes directly off pin 7 of IC3 (vertical deflection IC)

Double check your work, double check solder joint in the area of IC3, double check YOKE header pin solder joints on the chassis, check around any higher wattage resisters like R80, R82, R91 and such.

Double check the yoke connector is hooked up properly, and inspect the solder traces around the yoke connector. If it worked before, it's probably something dumb like that - or a cap in backwards...

Progress I can now get a pictue but now have jailbars. C48 was indeed not making contact.

Did you do a FULL cap kit? jailbars are a cap issue. If C48 wasn't making good contact, inspect all your others...

I did a full cap kit the jail bars were there from having the brightness turned up to high.

Picture comes up and stays up for awhile then disapears and reappears. There is a slight whine during this transition you can hear if its quiet.

Picture loss?
Totally or just collapsed?

Sounds to me like there is still a bad joint or trace you're missing.

And like Mod said, jailbars are typically caused by C57.

It was def total picture loss. Picture would come up then go away at random stay on for awhile then disappear and reappear. Doesnt matter though because I bumped the chassis while testing and saw a spark when the chassis hit monitor frame and now no neckglow. I dont know what to do know probably gonna have to mail it out to get fixed.

Well this pretty much ends the dream of having this done by tommorow. Worst part when the picture was there it looked so good ;-(

A failing C57 will make the picture come on and go away at random as well. I had a chassis that would do this, looked at it and saw a bulging C57, replaced it and the problem was solved.

uh, just out of silly curiosity, you didn't install any caps backwards did you? K7000's markers are for the Positive side, not Negative.

I doubled checked all the caps none are in backwards.

Im feeling ready to give this another shot. No neck glow whats the first thing to check?

Check B+ first, as that will tell you a few things. If no B+, check the fuse and the big white resistor on the back right corner (R303?).

If fuse is blown, check the VR (IC4), the HOT, and C38...

Replaced the fuse and it came back. Once again with vertical collapse. Going to check the board again with a magnifying glass.
