Hi,

I have a K7194 chassis that had some weak color and some flyback cracks, so naturally I did the caps and the flyback.

Problem is still there. No red. If I turn up the red I can saturate it so that the background has red in it, but still not much in the game.

Some people have said that it requires tube rejuvination, but I had the exact same problem with a K7191 a little while ago and happened to have another k7000 chassis around that I put in that game that worked just fine.

There are three caps that weren't replaced with the kit from Bob Roberts. I forget the locations, but C7 is sticking out in my head. THey're 10uf 25v and they're like in a row. Could it be these? I have three 10uf 50v caps that I'll try soon, but I just wanted to see if anyone's had this and solved it, just because it seems that I have had it now on two different k7000 chassis.

I appreciate any and all assistance! Thanks!

Those bipolar caps aren't in most cap kits (though they are in mine) though if they help your particular situation I can't say. Hooking the tube to a rejuvenator will tell you the condition of the guns, though.

you need to get your tube tested before you dig much firther into it.. or some a local buddy with another known good k7000 that you could plug your chassis to to test it..

if you cant find either, theres got to be a local tv repair shop that would test the tube for you at a reasonable price and mabye rejuvenate

Those three caps are in the signal path and can affect the picture. They couple the video to IC1. If you don't have any spares, simply swap the one attached to the red (C4) with one of the others (like C5) and try it again. Doing this only takes a minute and it'll rule that out.

But yes, I *have* seen these cause dim colors before.

A picture tube tester is a valuable tool, and this is true. But a lot can be done to troubleshoot a monitor with simple logical substitutions. All three color circuits are the same. You can always swap parts between them.

Solved it!

After some trial and error parts swapping, I found it!

It was a bad solder joint on the pin where the video comes in from the game.

I should have checked the joints first, before killing myself with parts swaps!!

Thanks again for the tips!

Cool man, glad you found it. Just for the future, if you have color problems, a capkit almost never fixes that... it's more for geometry problems, and sometimes brightness/contrast issues.
