Can anyone tell me what parts will die when a K7000 chassis is plugged in without using a ISO?

most likely the rectifying diodes around the filter cap, probably IC4, maybe the HOT....

Maybe nothing. I have a Killer Instinct 2 that I bought at auction that had a K7000, no iso. We played it for months and months before realizing there was no iso. I capped the monitor and decided to put in an iso just in case, but it worked just fine without.

And what's the model number on this miracle monitor?

Typically, the rectifying diodes will blow if you hook it up w/o an iso. It's possible for it to run without one if the monitor isn't properly grounded, though of course that's very dangerous.

I could be completely wrong so someone correct me if I am but the way I understand AC if you don't use an isolation transformer you got a 50/50 chance of getting it right or wrong. If you match the Hot with Hot (black wires together) and Neutral to Neutral (white wires together) it will work. The problem is when you hook the Hot to Neutral and Neutral to Hot or black to white and white to black. I could be wrong so best to use the isolation transformer and be safe and done with it.:)

Actually, that doesn't really matter... it's a full wave rectifier (4 diodes), so if you have the hot wire on one side, it'll blow two diodes, and if you have it on the other side, it'll blow the other two.

I can attest to blowing a K7000 up immediately in a Midway cab with the same non-iso power block like KI2. incidentally, it's the same cab that any monitor I throw in it has some kind of issue. :)

it was my tech friend's "favorite" monitor too, he was gonna let me use it when the Polo in it didn't power up (I bought the cab off him, it was in his storage unit) and we both had a total brainfart moment and didn't realize that newer power block didn't have isolation. whoops.....

so mod, is that why the K7200 has a different capkit, it's cause it's like a 7000 with a power supply built in?

Well, there are two - The K7201 and the K7203. they look different, but have the same basic stuff - just laid out differently, and with slightly different cap kits. They also have the power supply separate from the rest of the chassis (on the board) with a transformer (T3) separating them for isolation. This is why you rarely blow the fuse when you blow the HOT or flyback on a K7200....

Deflection board is a P538 = K7000

Here are pics....

Yes...it's a KI2, and it played for months and months like this. I was poking around inside it one day and noticed the lack of iso... Please don't tell me it didn't happen, because it obviously did.

So is that monitor running off the purple wiring ?

What all is up in the area I circled in this pic ?

Just curious... is the monitor frame and power cord (and outlet) properly grounded?

Oh yeah... and it didn't happen ;) .

It currently has an iso from Bob Roberts. I capped the monitor at the same time I installed the iso.

At the time that I bought it, it worked fine...everything was grounded. As for it not happening, you are seeing it with your very own eyes. No iso, P538.

My buddy has a Karate Champ with a 4900 in it, running fine. I notice it had the ground wire cut coming in to the cab. So I do the right thing and hooked it up. The previous owner had bypassed the iso transformer because it was bad and cut the ground wire. I didn't notice. When I hooked it back up, OOPS! Luckily it was just the fuse and the bridge.

On another note, I saw a 100v Sanyo 20EZ in a Centipede cab (running on 120v). It ran for 3 months before finally blowing up...
