I've been working on a box of K7000s for a client. Whomever had their soldering iron in here, first, should be forced to never pick up an iron again.

Sorry, I had to get that off my chest. These chassis have been butchered with sloppy solder work.

Anyway...the owner has this bright idea that if a monitor stops working, let's play "musical neckboards". For the most part, this has been fine.

Until this monitor. The NB clearly does not resemble the chassis. Upon firing it up, red is on full. The red driver is shorted.

No problem, I'm thinking...just replace the driver, and be on my way. But then, I note...it's a TZ1034. This neckboard came from a Zenith chassis.

Okay...plug the part number into NTE Quickcross. Comes up with NTE171. Plug in a standard K7000 neckboard driver (C2068) and it comes up with NTE376.

Crap.

Sometimes, parts are compatible, but have different tolerances (2SD870 and 2SD871, for example). I don't think this is the case here.

So, for those who have had this issue before, what did you do? Obviously, most people aren't swapping neckboards, but if you had a K7000a with a bad colour driver, did you shoehorn a C2068 in there, or get an NTE171?

on the transistors TZ1034 and C2068. yes the NTE171 is the replacement.

but between the TZ1034 and C2068 your problem is the collector and emitter are switched. so you will have to figure out how to bend the pins around to make the NTE171 work.

i found that out by looking at the data sheet one day. wile wondering the same thing you are. because i was looking for their replacements as well. to fix the different neck boards.

Peace
Buffett

Or, I can use a C2068 instead of a NTE171. Those I have; the NTE I do not. I'll look up the data sheets and twist the legs accordingly. Thanks.

ZOMBIE THREAD! @Peale & @Buffett

I too have different K7000 neckboards, some with C2068 and some with TZ1034 transistors (also a K7000a with the TZ 1034). @security0001 has the C2068's, but I'm looking for a TZ1034 to keep on hand.

Do I understand this right that a C2068 is compatible with a NTE376 while a TZ1034 is compatible with a NTE171 ?
