I've been working on a box of K7000s for a client. Whomever had their soldering iron in here, first, should be forced to never pick up an iron again.
Sorry, I had to get that off my chest. These chassis have been butchered with sloppy solder work.
Anyway...the owner has this bright idea that if a monitor stops working, let's play "musical neckboards". For the most part, this has been fine.
Until this monitor. The NB clearly does not resemble the chassis. Upon firing it up, red is on full. The red driver is shorted.
No problem, I'm thinking...just replace the driver, and be on my way. But then, I note...it's a TZ1034. This neckboard came from a Zenith chassis.
Okay...plug the part number into NTE Quickcross. Comes up with NTE171. Plug in a standard K7000 neckboard driver (C2068) and it comes up with NTE376.
Crap.
Sometimes, parts are compatible, but have different tolerances (2SD870 and 2SD871, for example). I don't think this is the case here.
So, for those who have had this issue before, what did you do? Obviously, most people aren't swapping neckboards, but if you had a K7000a with a bad colour driver, did you shoehorn a C2068 in there, or get an NTE171?
