Started doing a cap kit on my Ms. Pac and noticed something odd about cap C204 on the neck board.

Here is a picture of the solder side of the board.

The negative leg of the cap was on the right, which according to the marking on the board should be positive. Following the traces, it looks like that is indeed the ground trace. Is this board marked wrong, and is this a known issue? I did a search but didn't find anything.

negative should be towards/closest to the white crt socket

Maybe this is a different revision, but it seems the white socket is below the cap, and since the cap legs are horizontal, I'm not sure which one would be considered closer.

post a picture of the other side of the whole neck pcb. what size chassis is this?

the deflection board has the caps marked with the + polarity. the neckboard uses dots for the - side instead. and also on the solder side, you can see a + marking opposite of the - on the component side.

I was under the impression you only replace C204 if it had an electrolytic cap in the first place. I left the old poly caps on ones I've worked on.

Mine had an electrolytic. On the top side of the board you can see a small circle around one of the holes. This is where the positive lead of the cap was. However, on the bottom of the board the opposite hole was labeled +. That's where my confusion comes from.

YES always replace C204 with an electrolytic even if its a ceramic disc cap originally but always make sure of polarity when installing electrolytic caps.

i haven't seen that but it is definitely wrong on the bottom so just make sure you put it in correctly.
