Thought I would post this one as a lot of the dim picture threads seem to be inconclusive. This one stumped me for a bit. This particular chassis is a K7000A but should apply to regular K7000 as well. Had a K7000A that would power up, pic would come up but after a few seconds would just go dim. The chassis had previously been recapped by another tech and it didn't fix the issue. Of course I suspected the flyback and actually had a new one on a parts chassis I had on hand. Swapped it over, re-flowed a ton of stuff and the issue remained.
Next step was to check the brightness and contrast pots which were fine, then the resistors around the fly and onto the brightness and contrast circuits. Couldn't find anything out of spec. Ready to pull my hair out I figured I would shot gun the IC1, swapped it with a known good one and HOLLY SHIT!!, it worked! Ran all night, it's fixed. Still need to adjust the color a bit but yeah, this was a tough one.
