I have had this dead K7000 for a while, and after reading a few of the sweet guides in the stickies, I have been able to prevent my monitor from toasting parts.

I can finally power up the monitor, but now all I can get on the screen is a vertical line about 1" in thickness. What should I check in the case of horizontal deflection failure?

thanks

none, had the chassis/tube in the basement laying around.. but i hooked up a MK4 board to it

any solder bridges? did you do any repair work on it by chance?

I'd look around the HOT and C38.

Okay. The reason I asked was because many people misdiagnose collapse, and sometimes call it horizontal when it's really vertical.

If this chassis hasn't been capped yet, it should be. There are a lot of places where cold solder can occur and needs to be fixed. Concentrate on the area around the horizontal width coil, and check C38 (horizontal width cap). Might want to check the HOT for proper function, too...

Ah, well you guys were right it was c38. I forgot to solder in one of the legs.

When I powered the monitor back up to 50% i had a picture then 70% its still okay, 90% ok... but then when i turned the power up to 100% on my variac it died and blew the fuse :(((

While it was working, the picture was sorta jiggling like water, but fast.

I hate this chassis. There goes another hot, LoL. :(

I'm not sure why you're using that Variac. :p

you don't have a cab to test it in that's got an iso?

So that the parts don't blow up right away :)

heres my setup, variac --> isolation transformer --> monitor

on a second plug I have the power supply for my jamma setup equip with all the same stuff in a normal cabinet.. filters, etc.
