I have a K7000 from a TMNT that is is loosing the picture entirely after it warms up. Black screen. Afer turning it off and on, sometimes the picture come back for a while. I haven't seen it when the picture actually gets lost and the screen goes blank.

I've done cap kits on a K7000 but do you guys think it's a matter of just a cap kit. I was wondering if one of the IC's was overheating and I just need to have them re-seated with thermal grease. on top of putting in a new Cap kit.

I had a K7000 chassis that would sometimes turn on and other times it wouldn't as well as sometimes shut off altogether. I looked at the chassis and there was a very obvious bulging cap. Recapped it and it was fine.

It can also be the flyback, the brightness and focus pots tend to go out on them.

I would get Bob Roberts deluxe flyback kit that includes caps and a new HOT. This should take care of your problem.

if you wanna take an easier approach, I'd retouch all the solder joints on the neckboard. the K7000 in my SFA3 cab would just fade to black and when you'd tap on the frame, the tube would come back on. doesn't help that the neckboard on my has a crack in it and had some solder pads lifted on the socket pins, but there's a resistor along the side that goes to the "heat circuit", if any of those have cold solder you'll have problems like I had.

I think Randy Fromm had a flowchart outlining this, I forget the number on the resistor, I wanna say it was something like R213, but just hit everything to be safe, see if that helps any.

I could tell the tube and fly were fine on mine because the picture was excellent when it was on.

try tapping the monitor frame when it goes off and you lose neck glow, see if it comes back on.

yeah I have a complete deluxe kit and a spare cap kit that I can put on tonight. I just wanted to put it out there to see what others have experienced and to see if there's anything else to consider while i'm in there.

I have a few K7000s in my games so I want to get used to this monitor even though many seem to dislike how it seems to have random odd problems. I'll get to the other monitor problems in other threads when I get ready to tackle them.

THANKS

Most likely a cold solder joint on one of the power resistors around the horzontal width coil. Very common problem with K7000 chassis'....

oooo nice... i'll reflow all of those... suck the solder off and resolder them.
I'll stick with just a cap kit on this machine since I have the board out.
