I'm replacing the flyback on my K7901. The focus wire goes from the flyback into a shrinkwrapped cylinder. It comes back out the same side and goes to the focus pin on the neck board. The other side of the cylinder has a wire going to ground.

What is it? Should I splice my new focus line into it?

I swear I remember someone posting about this same thing not too long ago, but my search skills apparently aren't up to the job.

Of course, I can't remember what the answer was, either. :(

I just used a "regular" K7000 series flyback. It worked fine. I did not re-splice that resistor back into the circuit.

That K7901 is using a different flyback than the standard K7000 series flyback. I compared data sheets for the standard K7000 flyback and the one used on these K7901's.....My guess (and that's all this is).....At the time of production of these K7901's, Wells-Gardner had a supply problem getting the standard K7000 series flyback.....so they used a close substitute. The resistor mod is to bring this substitute flyback up to the standard K7000 series flyback specs. So, the resistor mod isn't needed when using a standard K7000 series flyback.
