Haven't seen this before so I thought I'd post. I have a K7000 chassis that I just recapped and replaced the HOT. It wasn't working well enough before for me to test the condition of the flyback. Testing it today, I found it produced a dim picture. When I turned up the screen control on the flyback, the pic did brighten, but it washed out the colors as well. I also noticed that when turning the black level down (ie darker) I got retrace in the black areas of the screen. I'm thinking this is a flyback problem. The pic is stable, just dim or washed out. I don't have an HV probe to test the actual HV. The tube is fine and produces a great picture with another chassis. Anyone have any ideas?

Check your contrast pot. if it is broken or not working properly, adjusting the screen or focus controls of the flyback will make the pic screw up or look washed out...

I don't think the heat circuit would cause this, but just in case, reflow your entire neckboard. do the input header pins too. check the contrast pot as mod stated, I don't know if yours is stationary adjustments or if you have a remote board. if there's a remote board, go over all the solder joints for the wires just for added measure. (won't necessarily fix your problem, but it's good to be thorough)

also, if you re-capped it the color adjustments on the neckboard might need to be gone over again, depending on how far off they were before.

swap components between the good chassis until it works, I suppose. lol

All GREAT suggestions guys. I'll get a chance to look at it again tomorrow. Thanks!

For the record, there were two problems with this chassis. Contrast pot was shaky and there were cold solder joints on two of the three color pins. Thanks for the hep guys.
