A few weeks ago I left my mame cabinet on overnight by mistake. When I shut it off the next day there was a strong burning smell filling my whole basement. I didn't have time to troubleshoot so I turned everything off, unplugged it from the wall and walked away.

Now that I have a few minutes to look at it... I power it up... no picture.

Pulled the chassis out and found a blown fuse. Checked the HOT, not shorted. Checked D19, D20, D21, and D22, all looked good, checked R103 and R104, also good. Then looked under the bridge the HOT is connected to and it looks like the flyback failed, more descriptively, it looks like someone shot the flyback in the head with a tiny gun and the flyback's brain splattered all over the nearby cap and metal wall.

Obviously, I'll need a new flyback but I also noticed that the vertical position wires were not connected on the board side. I don't know if they were like this when the chassis was still installed or if they came out when I was removing the chassis. How do these guys reconnect to the receptacle or should I just solder them to the board?

you have a plan for the flyback thing, so I'll talk about the V. Pos. unfortunately the wires fray from those plugs. you don't really NEED the plugs though, you can cut and strip the wires and solder them in directly. some of the later revision K7000s had those plugs removable if I recall, the ones with the rainbow colored remote board wiring. after you're done with the surgery though, I would encourage using silicon to hold those wires in place. since the remote board gets pulled on a lot, you don't want them to pop out again.

that's a great idea on the silicon because that wire wiggling once it's soldered will snap and break with too much movement right at the transition where the wire and solder meet.

if the OP needs a flyback i have them in stock.
