K6100 questions about missing component
I was asked to fix a monitor for someone and I don't think he knows the history on this monitor.
So going into this blind, I turn it on to find the spot killer isn't being engaged and no HV. Fuses all check out good and so do the surface mount transistors. The HV cage is a complete mess. I rebuild that. Plug it in and fire it up. I have neck glow but no HV.
I then see resistor R106 is missing on the deflection board (rev 317). The legs are there but no body lol.
I yank the deflection board out which staring me in the face is a transistor I failed to remember. I test that one and yep ... she's toast.
How in the hell is it possible I get NO spot killer engaged when I have a missing resistor AND a blown transistor? If I unplug the board set the LED WILL come on ....... I'm confused here.
All I do know is the owner told me "I'm tired of this thing breaking down on me. I just had it fixed and it failed again." It worked before??? wtf????
Is it possible R106 isn't needed? Seriously this makes no sense to me. It's on the parts list in the manual.
