Successful yoke swap tonight. Picked up a non-working K4900 monitor off CL for $50. At some point, the original K4900 was removed and a universal chassis was installed. It went into vertical collapse and eventually crapped out all together. The tube was in too good of shape to let it go, so my plan was to install one of my spare K4900s and get it going again. Much to my dismay, when I installed the chassis and powered up the monitor, I heard sizzling sounds and immediately shut off power. I was fortunate in that the chassis was ok. Turns out the yoke was shorted. That's what took out the universal chassis, or it might have been the other way around. Either way, the yoke was bad and I needed a new one.
Fellow KLOVer r5g came to my rescue. Sent me a replacement along with the convergence rings. Got everything in today. Cleaned the yoke, installed it, did the convergence/purity adjustment, balanced the colors, and it's running great! Took a few hours to get all the adjustments just right. It's not 100% perfect, but it's good enough for now. It's now working flawlessly and looks great. Paid $25 for the replacement yoke/ring set plus $50 for the tube, so all in all, not a bad investment. Just wanted to share.
