hey, have any of you guys dealt with a chassis that has green corrosion and heavy rust on it? it looks like it spent its life at the beach or a battery leaked on it. I already had a few parts just fall off as I tried to test them. this green corrosion is on everything and I am questioning the long term reliabilty of this chassis after I fix it. any opinions ?

If it's battery leakage you'll need to mitigate that by cleaning in vinegar to neutralize the damage. Otherwise it will continue to spread. Then remove and replace the damaged parts. It's a lot of work if the damage is extensive.

Just noticed this post. This is my chassis I am guessing. Yeah it is in bad shape. I got it in a bulk purchase and it had been in a shipping container for god knows how long. I'll try to clean it up once you get it working.

its possible both the copper and PCB material will have accelerated failure (NOT INCLUDING PART FAILURE)

But really the cost to repair in your time is going to be the deciding factor on this. There isn't really anything you can do about the rust. Just check parts, replace parts.

i have some of theses same type 4900 chassis in my junk pile.

they are not worth the repair if that badly damaged.

you will find that you will have one problem after the next.

if you don't your very lucky.

Peace
