Wow I am disappointed by the cap kit that I ordered. I didn't want to go through the manual and do an order so I figure I will give a cap kit a try. I compared the kit replacements to the caps on the manual and wow. The kit doesn't replace any of the mylar, and it doesn't replace cap C505 which is the B+ filter. Now I understand that most people are happy with the kit and it fixes their problems. But when I recap something I remove all the old 15+ year old caps so I never have to worry about them in the future. I would expect a kit to replace every cap but ceramic and mica. I will put the kit in and see what it does but I will have to now order the few caps the kit didn't replace so I don't have them on my mind.

The reason those caps are not included with the kit is because they're not that prone to failure. The cap kits are designed to replace the caps with the highest incidence of failure. It's really not necessary to change ANY capacitor unless it's fallen out of value, but since most DIY'ers don't have the proper equipment to test a cap, these kits are put together to take care of 90% of the issues.

Some places offer a 'deluxe' version of the cap kit which includes more items such as the horizontal output transistor, maybe a diode or two, and a few other transformers. Bob Roberts offers variations like this.

Just recap the board with the included caps and see if it does the trick. No need to replace the filter cap or any of the mylars unless you have to.

Digi-Key carries most everything else you will need and they will ship USPS First Class Mail in the US, which can be done for under $3 shipping cost, so if you need more than what's in the kit you can shop there.

Mylar caps don't dry up like electrolytics, which is why they're not included.

However; kits SHOULD include /all/ caps, esp for monitors that are nearly 30 years old. That Includes the main filter cap.

My kits include all electrolytic caps, including bipolar and main filter cap.

well thankfully what ever caps where dead in my monitor the kit cured it. Now my thing is can I live with the burn in.

You've already tried and accomplished a cap kit. Now its time to do a tube swap! That will get rid of the screen burn.

Yep thats what I want to do, I assume its not to hard but where do I find a correct tube for it, is the question. I heard tv's are a good choice but I don't want to end up with a pile or CRT tv's in my garage.
