Hello all. In my quest to learn to diagnose with symptoms or at least have an idea what area might be the culprit I have a new one I would like to present to the board.
I have been charged with working on my sister's 13" cocktail wg k4800. This monitor has seen some major hours of use over the last 3 or so years. The machine is rarely turned off to save the high scores so my guess is that it has been on for over 18,000-20,000 hours over the last 3 years. It has not been touched save fixing a few cold solder joints early in those 3 years.
So! It could EASILY need just a cap job as to my knowledge it may have never had new caps and if they were done they now have well over 25k or more hours on them. But as I prep a shopping list I wanted to see if there might be anything else I should take a look at.
The symptom is mainly parts of the screen "fizzle" in and out. Sometimes it's just a small corner, sometimes it's 3/4 of the screen. It's intermittent and usually comes back after a few hours.
Here's a video with just the corner messed up

Here's a video with about half the screen gone

To my eye it's not collapsing as the image is kinda there when it's 3/4 and then sometimes it's just a small corner.
See my images and videos. Let me know your thoughts and suggestions what else I might investigate. Again, my plan is to cap it no matter what but I figured it was worth asking the brain trust what else it might be. Thanks!
