I had a bad K4600 chassis (I labeled it "bad" a while ago but couldn't remember what issues it was having). So I decided to cap it. In addition to the the kit (purchased from Ian Kellogg), which came with the R360 resistor and the axial resistor (0.1uF 1600V).

The R360 resistor kind of scared me since it was significantly smaller (I can't remember what the resistance was compared to the one I replaced but definitely different).

Anyway, I powered it up on the bench (yes, with an iso xformer). As I reached for my test pattern generator, I heard a snap, and saw smoke. Immediately powered down and saw that the cap at C311 popped.

I checked all the caps on the daughter card and the polarity on each is correct. Any suggestions on what might have happened?

Check the wiring going to the yoke.

If its hooked up wrong c311 can pop. c313 too.

Thanks! I'll take another look in that area. All the caps look like they're in the right order so it has to be something else. I'm also going to go back over the solder. I remember there being one or two where the solder pads were very close together. I wonder if I bridged one.

Well, I'm pretty embarrassed about this one. You were right. I had two of the neck wires mixed up. I can't believe I did that. I even remember double checking the correct positions. I must have just zoned out. Anyway, problem solved. Thanks for your help.
