Hey all,

Have this issue with a K4600 in my Gorf. Can not adjust it out, using either the brightness on the neckboard or on the daughter card. Very blue, can't get it black and can't get the scan lines to go away. Going to pull it and recap it, test it, then if no improvement (guessing there won't be) going to try to rejuvenate. Any other thoughts?

Tried adjusting your brightness on the flyback transformer? Maybe too high causing the lines.

Be sure to also replace the big filter cap and the C621 axial paper cap, which isn't included in all capkits. Mine did the plinking sound and rolled randomly until I did those after the initial capkit. reflowing existing stuff on the daughterboards at least is recommended. Desolder the 2 wires going to the horizontal coil when you go to remove the chassis. The coils can break very easily.

Take lots of pictures as you are disconnecting things.

There no brightness on the k4600 flyback. only focus. The black level pot is on the daughter card (typically on the inside where you can't get to it, but when I rebuild the chassis I typically mount it on the solder side of the card for easier access.

This. ^^^^^ Those width coils are ULTRA fragile.
Here's a good guide on how to disassemble the K4600 chassis. The only thing I WOULDN'T do is remove the width coil like the guy in the video does. It WILL break. Simply unsolder the two wires instead and leave it alone, as suggested above.

Ah that's right...thanks for the correction.

The cap kit should include a new black level pot for the daughter card, if not it should probably be replaced.

I had the same issue on mine and it persisted even after the cap kit and replacing the black level pot on the card. This thread was a huge help. Ken's post (#5) about R419 on the neckboard was the winner for me. Changed that out and all was well.

Awesome thank you. I am going to do a cap kit anyway, but I can tell it probably isn't going to fix this particular issue. I will check that thread and change out that resistor, thank you for the info.

BTW: if you search our site for "k4600 brightness" this resistor and location will come up. i do this on alot of parts so the search on our site can be extremely helpful not only to find parts but repairs.

I'll be ordering a cap kit and resistor from you shortly.
