I am looking at a chassis for a local buddy, and as I begin I notice that the 'inner tube' of hte width coil is broken. It is near one end, almost coaxing me into crazy gluing it back together.

I am told the problem with this chassis up to this point is it had screen colapse. Kind of intermittently.

Is this, or could this be a cause of the broken width coil?
Nobody has replacements right?

no one has replacements. i have one chassis where its broken just about the same way as the one you mentioned i just tied in a way where it wont ground on the frame and has been working fine like that. As for the collapse just redo the solder to the pins where the daughter cards go into

good advice, thanks.

I have great confidence that I can get a couple of drops of crazy glue on this broken part and fix it relatively speaking. Should I do it. I don't really need to even handle it much to do so.

What kind of screen collapse? vertical or horizontal? It's not uncommon for the ends of these coils to crumble and no longer stay held in the bracket. i usually wrap the connections in electrical tape to keep it from shorting to the frame or chassis. it doesn't necessarily mean that it is bad. Bad solder joints or bad caps on the X/Y board could also cause your issue....

yeah I haven't seen it in action. just the chassis in front of me.
There were plenty of solder-less posts on this chassis. Very much in need of solder reflowing.

I 'fixed' the width coil.

reflowed a ton of solder on the main board. I will recap it soon, and hopefully that takes care of everything.

thanks
