Just to show you how out of touch the rest of the world is re: TRON..

Yesterday I posted the pic of the Recognizer sticker that is on my Jeep, on a Jeep forum for all to enjoy. It got 2 pages worth of replies, most of which came from posters who did not even know what the sticker was.

One person said they thought it was a "Space Invader". Another said they thought it was a crane. All I could say was meh.

So, whenever you think TRON: Legacy is taking the world by storm, well uh, there you go..

I don't know why anyone would think this.

I have a shit ton of nerdy friends who all grew up in the 80s and are all huge gamers to this day, and 99% of them have heard of Tron, but none have ever seen it. I have 1 friend who told me "yeah, I think I remember seeing it before, but I cant remember what it was about..."

TRON has a very small following.

I just thought it was funny to step out of the KLOViverse, where we have daily, if not hourly, updates and discussions about TRON, and see if TRON-lover life existed elsewhere out on the InterWebs (aside from TRON-specific forums, mind you).

My conclusion is TRON does not exist out there as it does with these Forums. At least not in the realm of rednecks and 4x4's LMAO.

What? The world isn't full of nerd-geeks? When did this happen? ;)

Outside of these forums hardly anyone knows what tron is. Those who do don't really care. Its a 20-some-year old movie. I'm a bit young to really remember tron so I guess I really don't care about it either. Not planning to see the new movie until it hits blu-ray. As I've said before, if it wasn't for these forums I wouldn't know anything about the new Tron movie...

Hell, I know what TRON is, and have seen the movie, and played the game a lot - but it wasn't until the rerelease got mentioned and y'all started talking about "recognizers" that I realized what it was y'all were talking about - and only until someone posted a pic...

The pic again for those who missed it..

I'm curious to see how this movie does at the box office.

The original TRON was not a huge commercial success
(the arcade game actually made more money than the movie...),
and it only has a small cult following.

I think it will do OK for a couple of weeks
(...for the Tron-geeks and the otherwise curious crowd ),
but will die quickly after Christmas.

Unless of course the Special effects create a buzz like Avatar did
(... 'cause let's face it, other than the Special effects,
Avatar was a very average movie about Cowboys and Indians... ).

I'll go see it for sure, but my wife already told me she'll be busy
watching re-runs of The Biggest Loser on that night... ;-)

Tron definitely wasn't for everyone, I remember when Tron came out in theaters but my parents wouldn't take me to see it. I loved playing the game in the arcade though. It wasn't until 1986 when i finally saw the movie and i thought it was good. My sons(13 and 10) have watched it on dvd and can't wait to see Tron Legacy in the theater with me. Tron has gotten a bit of play on the NBC show Chuck over the past few years, of course they are playing up the nerd angle on the show too. I can relate to Chuck since I have a Tron poster that I use to have hanging up in my room in the basement.

+1

I'm really not into Tron itself. The arcade game was cool and a favorite of mine, but in general, I'm not a sci-fy guy.

For what ever reason, we never got to see that one in the theatre. Or ET.. Or Dark Crystal.. I had to go see Raiders of the Lost Ark with my Uncle! What were my parents thinking??!!!!

Now here I am, taking my kids to rescreenings of all of these films! Oy.

Oh and I should also note that same uncle took me to see The Last Starfighter AND Gremlins. Thank God for extended family!

I watched Tron for the first time in 2007 after seeing it playing in a nightclub and wanting to figure out what it was about since I was watching it with no sound.

Just a few days ago, my daughter said to me:"there's this cool movie coming out that has everything dark and they have cool light up suits, I'd like to see it". She's only eleven, and didn't know the first thing about Tron, but it made me laugh.

I enjoyed playing the Tron game, back in the day, but didn't see the movie until later. I plan on seeing it in Imax. Why not? why does everyone have to be so damn critical anyway?

I think some folks here are simply critical because we've been talking about it daily for over a year now. :D

Ive had enough Tron in the last 2 months to last me the rest of my life!

Now I still need a machine ;)
