It took all night too do it but I just laid down a score of 125.817 on Sinistar beats top 11 of all time, if you are a glass is half full you could even say top ten. The brain trust over their at Williams makes the best raster games ever built, their games are a whirlpool of entertainment. I plan to hit the top score set 27 years ago, that is 27 years that the high score has not been beaten, this next year of 2010

Thank you for reading

Nice Score. My top is 220K so far. Game is hard as hell.

Know the waves. When you know you are going into a void zone as the next wave, keep mining sinicrystals. Even as the Sinistar is dying. Keep mining. You want to enter the zone with a full load if possible. Then you can help the Sinistar to be built by mining for the workers. You want to get out of the void zones as fast as possible.

In the other zones, if it looks like there are a bunch of warriors headed your way, let them get on screen and let a Sinibomb go. They will chase it.

Keep firing when the hyperdrive kicks in. You can rack up some "freebee" points by shooting things while in hyperdrive.

Know your rocks. Certain rocks will spew sinicrystals at an incredible rate if you get the timing right. The best ones are the little wedge shaped rocks. Each type of rock has a different resonant frequency. If you can hit the resonant frequency, they will spew sinicrystals.

Know when to blow the rock up. There are times that the rocks will start spewing sinicrystals on the other side. Rather than let the workers have them, blow the rock up and drive through the debris and pick up the sinicrystals before the workers do. This also works well as a surprise attack on warriors when they come in on the other side of a rock.

Don't die. This is surprisingly hard to do.

Crank the difficulty. Turn up the difficulty settings to the max. Your playing time won't change that much, but you will get used to more things coming at you sooner. When you can get your playing time back up to 3 minutes or more, lower the difficulty back to normal. You should see an improvement in your scores overall (there is always going to be that one 20 second game no matter what the difficulty setting is, just don't get discouraged).

Good luck.

Thank you Yellow dog I have noticed some of the things you listed like the rocks. It is good to confirm my thoughts on them. It is the 20 second games That I love to hate if you know what I mean. I have only scraped 100,000 in a week of playing. I think with your advise I will be able to beat my last high score. Thank you so much too both of you for taking the time to give out some coaching on this flippen master piece of a video game.

Williams is by far the most initiative arcade developers of the early 80es. Their games were made for my brain & stand on the top of my list of favorite classics

A week later and I have not been able too bet my high score any tips arcadenut?

You can leech points on the early stages by continuing to bomb the not yet built Sinistar shell. If he never gets built, you can stay on the board.

Sinistar was one of my favorite games during development. I spent a lot of time with the SiniTeam playtesting it.

If you ever find a decent cabinet up your way, let me know. I've got all the boards and other parts, just no cab :(. My Sinistar is somewhat lacking, although it is playable:

PS: To answer the two most common questions: (1) Yes that is a bungie cord holding the control panel on, and (2) Yes, that is a coin door on the back of it.

and i'm like ken in that i have most of the sinistar parts but no cab - A litle off topic but my defense command assemblage is akin to that at the moment too - i finally got a monitor working and tuned up, installed in a cab, but i have a williams boardset, power brick and coin door on the workbench next to it all connected by umbilicals! but thats another threads worth. :p i wonder if some future owner will figure out what the bungie burn on the cpo was caused by...tape a photo inside the cp!
