Hey Guys,

I just took a look at a NFL Blitz 2k Gold/NBA Showtime 2in1 cabinet and the overall machine was in great condition. Sideart looks perfect, control, sticks, etc all looked nice and clean..pretty much nice inside and out. The only thing was the monitor wasnt working, the guy said of course it was working a few weeks ago and it just went out, before that it was working and looking fine. He turned it on and was able to get sound of the game etc, I did notice a weird high pitch hum or noise coming from the screen, which may be related?..i dont know. He said he had his "tech guy" take a look at 2 fuses but couldn't get to the other ones, said it could just be that. He had a nice MK2 cabinet right next to it, same deal, very nice condition, and bought both of them a few years ago online, both excellent shape. He's going to hold it for me overnight to decide..he's asking $350 for the Cabinet. One other thing, its a 3rd floor walk up!!! haha. I'd have to pay someone to get it down the stairs for me and delivered to my apartment about 20 blocks away..my building has an elevator and the cheapest quote I got was about 150 bucks. So really its going to cost me $500 for this thing. Is the machine worth the risk of $350, with the possibility that the monitor needs to be replaced? I should be able to fix the monitor myself eventually or have someone take a crack at it but what do you all think about that price?..what would you do.

How much are the boards alone worth? Just dont know that much about monitors..something that doesnt turn on at all that "was working" a few weeks ago sounds kinda strange. The machine was in great exterior condition and looks like it barely got any use.

If it's the 2 in 1 it's a vegas boardset.. those can bring in a few bucks.. but again range.. but at $350.. ? Naa.. pass.. on top of that paying someone to move it.. Save your money for a working game in my opinion..

Me personally, I buy games I know I can at the very least break even with. Even if I do decide to keep them (which often happens). Unless it's a "grail" game then you end up dishing out more then most.

Thanks for the advice guys..if I end up getting the guy to lower his price what's the absolute you would pay for it?...knowing that I have to pay about 100-150 bucks to move it?

I can't be sure.. really depends on the monitor issues. I don't know the current market value in your area for something like that working.. is it a 4 player or 2 player setup?

4 player setup, cabinet in near perfect condition, couple small scuffs here and there but nothing bad. Its NYC so lets just say everything is inflated, or atleast people try to make it that way

Ok, well then.. If you know for sure you can get the monitor back in working order, then $200 would be where I would put it. Since you have to factor in the extra $150 moving costs. So a total cost so far of $350 plus cap kit and possibly flyback.. your around $400 if you do the work yourself.

Once it's all back in working condition.. you can make that back since it is the vegas boardset.

The whole expert checking it out and it may just be a couple of fuses he can't get to -- complete BS.

If he'll lie about that there's no telling what other fibs he's telling. Maybe everything was working ok before the monitor went, maybe it wasn't. I guarantee once you move it that it'll be your problem to sort out, not his.

$350 is too much for a game with a dead monitor and with the monitor dead there's no telling what else is bad.

Run away!

He came down to 275 on it...that any better?..I really wish the damn thing could just be moved into an elevator..two flights of stairs whyyyyy

That's better.

Is it a good deal? It's all a gamble. The problem is that you don't know what's wrong with the monitor -- it could be completely hosed. He could have swapped in a dead as a doornail monitor and you wouldn't know it and it's your issue once you buy it and move it. Or it could be $50 worth of parts if you're handy at repairing it yourself. Unfortunately he started off with a huge freaking lie about the fuses so take that for what you will.

It could be hiding serious issues with the components inside the cabinet. You said it comes on and makes sound - can you drop quarters in it and play the game blind? If you can then the rest of the game is probably okay but there's still a lot of unknowns. Maybe some of the sticks are bad, you can't run the diagnostics to see what the game thinks is bad, etc. Maybe the game would reboot every 15 min if you left it on.

How big of a gambler are you?

This is one of those times where it would be beautiful to have one of the small 7" lcd monitors so you could plug it in and check the game itself out.

You make a lot of valid points, and its not so much how big of a gambler am I...its i'm so damn impatient haha. I live in midtown manhattan where arcade games are scarce, and I don't have a car to be able to make trips outside of the city to pick up games etc. I thought I hit something big being 20 blocks away from me, but the first bit of bad news was realizing there was no elevator. But about the guy, he doesnt seem like he has any idea about the machines, i'd be totally shocked if he was able to swap out a bad monitor and put in a new one, he had a nice big loft apartment in the middle of union square, and had a bunch of nice games, to try and screw me over for a few hundred bucks would seem a little odd..that said you are right who knows what else could actually be wrong with it. I told him i'd feel comfortable at around 200 but even if he came down to that I dont know if I would do it. Still would have to pay some guy 150 bucks to get it down for me. Oh well........

P.S. Looks like this is a medium res 25 or 27" monitor, for what it's worth. That might be something else to look into -- what monitor is in there now.

Maybe you can find a local KLOVer or two that can help you move it for the cost of beer...

it has the 25" mid res...hey Guys anyone wanna help me move it?!?!? Case of beer and a jtagged Xbox 360 (has red light issue)!!

Its a fair price. The vegas pcb upgraded to sportstation is worth about $300 alone. If its the rare dedicated sportstaion cabinet, its worth more.

Usually there are in blitz 99 or showtime cabs. here is a showtime cab for refrence:

I would say its worth $350-$400 for a nice cab with a bad monitor. Figure $100 to fix the u5000 or k7500 thats in there.

going down stairs not a big problem. If you want, you can pull the monitor and control panel and drop 100+lbs off it. If you have a friend help, you an get it out no problem.
