just saw a computer space game for sale, looks like the cabinet is in great condition, pcb is apparently working, everything except monitor bezel seems to be there. here are my concerns. is 600-800 too much for one of these things? is the gameplay pretty solid or is it one of those that wears off after the initial shock of seeing one and playing one for a few minutes? i put a bid in for 600.00 just to see what happens, there has been multiple bids up to mine already and seems like its going fast. prob. wont win this or pull the trigger unless i hear from you guys first. (sale ends in 3 days) if your guy's response is to go for it, then ill increase incrementally up to 1000 as my highest offer. would be nice. also, it seems that the monitor is not original, and that it is just a used tv, and that somehow the previous owner had it rigged to play using a nintendo rf connector as means of or a way to connect to pcb to get correct display. i dont know if this is a good sign or not. i am going to post the link and hopefully you guys can fill me in and give me the heads up to save me from doing something stupid or push me to get a great game. if this seems easily fixiable and you guys are certain i can find a monitor bezel surrounding redone for this then let me know! i like collecting, and fixing, i dont like being stupid. thanks. - Philip

*correction, my bid is for 587.00 so far. not 600

You won't win posting here :) You just added many potential other bidders. I paid $700 for my CS and that was a deal as it was a friend selling it and we had long discussions before I bought it to ensure he know its potential value. This will likely go for $1000-$2000 as is.

haha

man i just laughed so hard. yeah i figured that out after i posted. I was like, " Dangit!"+(fist to side of head) ;). Maybe everyone will sleep for a few days or not pay attention. I'm kinda hoping i get out bid though as i am a bit unsure of this one. it IS missing the monitor surround and i have only played it somewhat emulated. seems like a slower weirder asteroids. still though, major props to those that own such a rare and awsome game.

*DANGIT-people are DEFF. paying attention and reading this post! so far 46 to be exact. That was fast; looks like i blew my chances. i feel like one of the guys from dumb and dumber right now. found the clip(this about summarizes how i feel right now!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9IgLueodZA

I don't think you hurt your chances of getting this thing by posting it here, I'm sure several members have had this in their watch list since it went up for auction. I check Craigslist constantly and still get tips on games from guys that I somehow managed to miss. You could be the high bidder on that auction till the last 25 seconds just to see it skyrocket before you even have a chance to bid.

That is worth good money but non working status plus missing the original TV and power supply will hurt value somewhat. Plus red is a very common color. Always cool to see these pop up...

On the topic of not introducing competition to auction bidding-

Maybe you did get some eyes on it that weren't there before. I, for one, am a mostly reformed Ebay addict.

I used to check that crap EVERY day and had a couple dozen auctions I was watching at any time. There used to be a manageable amount of stuff there so that you could check the new items and the ending today items and know what was coming down the pipe.

Now it's mostly store type items and hail Mary type pricing with somebody getting a payday each time some clown buys a $30 manual.

I still get some daily notices, but hardly anything pans out of it.

So, yeah- you posting a direct link to an active auction you're bidding on isn't too smart if you have desires to get the object. At most, you could say that one was available and not reveal the source.

How many times does somebody post about a CL listing only to have the seller flooded with calls and offers and then miss out on the deal?

Old advice.

Cabinet looks to be in good shape.

But, if I were gonna spend that type of $$, mine would need the original TV.

agreed

I agree. here's the thing. Im new to this type of stuff and 26 years old. I am new to the scene and had this imaginative view that everybody on here is basically here to help each other out, and there was a certain "honor" code that if you knew someone from klov was posting a bid on an auction you wouldn't mess with it. So far that has been my experience. Didn't realize I should have been thinking of the obvious. Like I also said though, as I was sending the post I realized I was putting this bid out to be grabbed. but the button had already been clicked and while I could have been dishonest and changed around the post,id rather be honest. to each his own moral. A good deals a good deal. Thanks for the advice - Philip

Trust me on this one - a game like that does not go unnoticed on Ebay or anywhere else.

What he said. I put it on my watch list, but don't plan to bid, just want to keep track of how much it goes for. Good luck. Hopefully karma will see this game make it into your collection. If it does not, that just means that there is probably one in better shape in a warehouse find in your future and the arcade spirits are looking after you.

Hey aringtop, I run a website devoted to Computer Space (for some weird reason my eBay Tracker stopped working a while ago). If you want to try a simulation of the game itself, I have a free one to download on there.

I will warn you though, the game play is kinda sucky. Computer Space really only shines as a piece of eye candy and for its historical value. The actual game is not that great.

thanks

Yeah, I agree. Although I have never played it on THE actual arcade, just watching videos and playing the emulated or reconstructed version just seems like a weird slower asteroids clone. Thanks for your post!

* Update- I have decided not to see this auction through. Even if this game can be had for a low price, I am uncomfortable with the color of the machine, AND it not containing the original monitor. Throw in bad gameplay and the price and its just not economical. If everything was original and in good condition I would certainly pull the trigger as its a piece of history that needs to be preserved but this one seems "off".

Plus the fact that it's local pick-up only in CA and you're in OH? ;)

i love how the thread title makes you think he found a CS for sale in some obscure corner of the world...but no, it's the one that's been listed on ebay for the past week

bwahahahahahahahaha

this is the first time i have literally LOLed at a post in some time!!!

hahahahaha................

Honour system

That makes no sense. Why would you feel a sense of entitlement that no one else should bid on it if you post on KLOV? It is an auction to make the most money possible for an item to the highest bidder. If you had a deal made with a seller that is different. If it is something rare and they had a BIN and you decided to post instead of buying it would be the same thing if someone needed it and saw the post. I am not trying to be mean but its is a Computer Space which is a grail game.
