just pulled a pinball machine from a basement....have some questions

hello. i just found a williams FIRE pinball machine in someone basement....and have even unloaded it yet or worked on it at all

my question is what do u have to do to get the bell to ring on the top of the game.....

ALSO

the one flipper will vibrate (sorta keep flipping) when you hold in the 1 flipper button......i might be wrong but is this probably a end of stroke switch adjustment problem?

also there is a hum from the speakers every time the playfield lights cycle through their attract mode........when they all flash on you here a SLIGHT "zzzz"......"zzzzzz"...........
is this an easy fix? my playboy machine did the same thing and all it needed was the connectors reseated........

thanks for the help guys.....i look forward to all postive and smart ass comments......hahahahah

im trying to learn to fix these game but you cant get experience if NOBODY gives it to you!

First of all, there is a molex plug up near the bell. Make sure that is connected. There is also a setting that youcan change. It is something like "BELL USAGE" and can be set top more, less, or none.

Yes, it may be. I would definately check there first.

My Fire! machine had that REALLY bad. Make sure that ALL the screws in ALL the boards are there, and tight. Sometimes it is that easy, but for me it was not. I never did get mine to go away :( This is a common issue on System 11 machines. Seems to be a grounding issue, but I could not get mine figured out, even with all the "fixes"

LOL. Fire! is a great game. Very different but I liked it alot.

You sure are filling up the woodshop, eh Dave?? Chattering flippers can also be caused by a broken wire on the coil itself. Lift the playfield, hold the button in and look for sparks!!

Sounds like you need to go through the entire machine first...

every time i find one i try to make room for it somewhere.......i have been passing on the 70's electro mechanical games and trying to get more and more games with ramps that are fun to play.......i used to swear by gottlieb and i still do but some of these williams designs i am really starting to like.

ill have to go all over this one and check that coil like you said

ok.....i tried to fix this machine tonite and im stuck......i didnt give a full effort because im cautious and dont wanna break anything.....

anyhow...i lifted the playfield and i found the spark on the flipper that is chattering. i dont see any wires off.......does this need a new coil? whats the next step?

If you look closely you will see that one of the thin wires is not tight to the lug, that is what is sparking. Resolder all should be fine. Check your PM

ill look at it again here. do you mean the wire on the end of the flipper coil? or the wires going to the flipper contacts? whats a lug?

its sparking right on the contact point (the little circle on the end of contact where it touches)

I really want another Fire! one day. It certainly had a lot of character. I can hear every sound of that game in my head just thinking about it.

Does your "fire wheel" work under the playfield? That looked like a cool effect but I never bothered getting mine to work.

i finally fixed this game tonite thanks to BLITZ_8255. thanks howard. i looked over the flippers again and resoldered everything. then i found the small hair wire that was off and resoldered it and now the flipper works!

i really like the machine alot but i see that theres alot of people who dont like how it plays. im a fan of games without pop bumpers (fire, junkyard)
yes the fire wheel works on mine but 1 of the lights is burnt out. i have to completely go all over this game. i just wanted to get it playing so i can play it while i am in the process of repairing this old electro mechanical shooting game.
i remember i missed one of these long long ago back in 1999 for $400 in mint shape and it was 10 miles away. i ended up driving like 35 miles to get this one but i paid alot less.....but the cabinet needs alot of touchup in the brown area
