After 6 years of having storage units, sometimes up to three 10x20s at a time, I finally dwindled them down and today is the final day - I just closed the last 10x20. The rates here in CA for a 10x20 are $145/mo.

I'm not too happy how much coin was dumped into rent and I vow never to do it again (at least for longer than a month) if necessary.

Getting divorced, almost losing my house, and culling down my collection from 60 to 15 has really helped me stop the impulse buying of games and gaming crap i don't need. I don't recommend it for everyone as it will come in different forms for different people.... All in all, it just feels good to finally be out from underneath the storage cloud.

To all who are trying to kick the storage habit....I raise my drink and say keep up the good fight.

Where did all the games go?? I will buy some if you have any left. PM me, Im in California too!

I feel your pain man! It seems my storage unit fees goes up every year and it sucks because half my games in there are not even working like you said money being wasted.

Congrats on kicking the habit! It is a good feeling. I have been storage unit free going on 4 years now. :)

Congratulations. I never had it that bad (5x10 unit before I had a house), but I know that 'my money went where?' feeling.

Where were you about 8 months ago?? LOL... actually, most went to close friends, some were posted on KLOV but they're giggity giggity gone, all in good hands thankfully.

Congrats on it! I know that if my storage/warehouse wasn't free, then I wouldn't own hardly as many games, as it really adds up in cost, especially if you want to have room to play them, not just store them.

I always said I would never 'waste' money on a storage unit. Problem is I have other things I have collected over the years and I was just plain running out of room for games or anything. It was to the point I couldn't even play my games without moving a ton of stuff and forget about pulling one out to work on it. Finally broke down this year and did it. Has to be the one bill I actually enjoy paying. I put all my other stuff in storage, no arcade stuff, well, one cocktail and one cabaret but that is it, for now.

Anyways, I can now walk up to any of my games in my garage or extra room and play them or pull them out and be able to work on them without tripping over 10,000 other things. I love it. I even have extra space all around me. I don't see it changing until I get a bigger place which might be a couple of years.

I always thought it was just stupid to put stuff into storage unless it was very short term. I mean, why keep the stuff if it just sits stacked up in a room that isn't even in your house and you have to pay for it but I just can't bring myself to sell the stuff. I keep telling myself it will all be displayed/used once I upgrade my house. Yes, I could use help I guess.

Congratulations on kicking the habit, one day I will too. ;)

What did you do with the Dinosaur skull?

I have never had a storage unit, and never will.

Didn't see you at the auction today, you could have loaded up some more games.

Congrats AG! I've been contemplating on getting number 2! In my defense though, the first was is split w/ my brother's crap. Plus, I get a deal on rental, since I know the owner's daughter....:D

I'm on month 4 of what was supposed to be a 3 month storage plan. I'm guessing it'll be another 2 before I'm back to storage free.

Everytime I think about storage.. I pretty much decide its time to purge
crap from my life I dont use. I have a 2300 sqft house. If I cant keep
my stuff in those 4 walls.. I'm thinking I have to much stuff.

Although this arcade hobby is pushing it though. I need to add more shelves in the garage for monitor storage.

I have an 1100 sq ft home and no garage. But there's a 600 sq ft extra room out back where the games go. Not much storage at all though. Tiny closets. We get rid of stuff fast...not much clutter here.

But I can't ever see spending cash on a storage unit. I know a guy I was trying to buy some games from but he kept thinking they are worth more than I was offering. So he continues paying storage for them instead. Year....after year...after year. It's crazy to me.

I am lucky in that:
A) I live in AZ, so as long as there's a roof over any games in my backyard, they are VERY safe from rain.
B) I have a HUGE back porch that has a concrete base and a roof over it. If I had to, I could probably store 20 games out there.
C) I live alone, so I have 2 bedrooms full of games, could always fit one in the bathroom, several in the living room...

I could never see spending money to store them... That tells me I've gotten out of hand.

The only time I've ever spent money on storage was several years ago before I owned any arcade games, I got a small space to store some car parts for a project car. The car was parked at a buddy's place, and the storage was only around $20/month, but I still found it stupid to pay for it. The car was also a stupid buy, I wasted a ton of money in rent for a garage for it before getting my house. It's been 6+ years now, and the car still isn't even close to running, and I've been trying to unload it for a loss for the past 6 months with no success.

These days I'm single, have a 1300 sq ft house, detached garage, and close to 1/4 acre of land, so I know it's time to sell some crap off if I ever got enough games to where storage became a problem.
