Just installed the LV2000 kit on my Star Wars...is this normal?

Ok, so my Star Wars monitor went out about two weeks back and a few days ago I installed the LV2000 kit. The monitor came back to life and looked great, but when I turn the game on it smells like something is burning. I've taken off the back and watched it for a good while and I don't see smoke, the image on the monitor is stable, and nothing seems out of order, but it smells like burning all the same. I've even ran the machine (supervised) for a couple of hours and nothing went wrong. Oh, I also swapped out the big blue at the same time.

Any ideas on what's going on?

The K4900 I just hooked up in my multipac smells strange too when it runs... but not really a burning smell... more like Ozone or something.

Yeah...it's more of an ozone smell than just smoke. That's a better way of describing it. Has yours faded over time, or does it still fill your arcade space each time?

Just put it in there yesterday... can't really tell ya. It's also exposed (the monitor) as I am working on the cab right now. It's just a strange smell. Almost like the smell that is created when you run one of those propane "ceramic disc" heaters in a closed up room for a while.

Did you forget to hook up the degaussing cable when you put the deflection PCB back in? It will usually makes a resistor smoke if you don't, but I think it doesn't smoke after the housing is cooked enough.

No, I definitely hooked that back up, and I even double checked it because I was aware that it was capable of doing that.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of damage would that cause? On the LV2000 instructions they make it seem to be no big deal, but it can't be good, right?

It is no big deal since it only gets power for a few seconds. You do get a puff of smoke off of the resistor. I just noticed that the second time I did it that it didn't smoke as much as the first time.

The 6100 tends to run hot. You're probably just smelling the heat of it. You should feel the heat coming out the upper vent on a Tempest sometime. If it worries you, install a quiet computer fan to blow on it....

Well the crazy thing is that it never kicked out that smell before I installed the kit. I ran it for a good year and never noticed a thing. Then I put the kit on there and the smell creeps up.

perhaps it some chemical on the 2000 that stinks when it gets hot?

essence of pcb perhaps...the smell of losing cash and doing repairs.
