Hey Gang, got the Punch-Out tonight. Overall I'm excited, but some things need addressing...

Firstly, the previous owner installed non-Nintendo buttons for punch left and punch right. I'm pretty sure the button holders aren't Nintendo either, but I could be wrong. (Button holders don't match, and one button's height is compensated with a fender washer). Basically I got the actual button out (the push part) but the base is really locked in there. I'll try and get a pic up ASAP but I am without a camera at the present moment. He was nice enough to give me two Nintendo buttons, an orange and blue; and he claims the stock cabinet button color scheme was just that. I've heard both are supposed to be orange. Basically, if someone could post a pic of the underside of a Punch-Out CP I'd be in debt to them.

Second, the coin mechs. They don't lock, but he also gave me a spare lock insert with a set of keys that is longer than the one in it - so the "new" lock, when installed, protrudes like an outtie belly button. Second when I have the door swung open to view the quarter dropping through, the inserted quarter sails into no-man's land. All I can think of is it is missing some sort of metal sleeve/guide that guides the quarter into the bottom mech of the coin door. ((When I drop a quarter through the bottom P1 mech it triggers that small twine thingy and registers as a credit... dropping a quarter trough the P2 bottom mech doesn't do anything, and the little twine switch thing is obviously bent down out of range)).

Third, he gave me side art he never got around to applying, and I'm guessing it is because of the 6 chrome bolt heads that are riddled down each side of the cab. I didn't want to, but I think I will have to somehow take them out and flush screws in their place, bondo, sand, and repaint UGH! Then apply the side art.

Basically any tips on any three parts of this thread would be highly appreciated. Not sure how I'm going to "undo" the bold heads, or how I'll fix my coin problem. A pic of the underside of the CP should solve my button issue easy enough.

I guess on the bright side, I have a Punch-Out in my basement that looks good despite the bolts, has crispy monitors, and works 100% gameplay-wise.

Here's Mine..

Here are pics of the top and bottom of my PO cp...

You can get the correct orange color buttons from Mike's Arcade: http://www.mikesarcade.com/cgi-bin/store.pl

Hope this helps..

Congrads on getting the PO!!

Take it easy

Screwed on

They are screwed on with a black nut...like a regular button usually is..I just don't have them on in the pic because I took that right after I changed the CPO...they black nut is back on both of them now..

I believe the "original" buttons just pushed threw and fit so tight they didn't have a nut to hold them down at all...but I might be wrong...

Thanks for the help Jess. I've gotta order these up and put some work in over the weekend. Too late to do any physical work now. Appreciate the photo.

Let me know if you have other questions..I will help if I can..

For the side art, remove the monitors... apply side art... cut small X's in the side art where the bolts go and insert bolts. You can also do one side at a time as long as the other side is mounted...but make sure your monitor is properly mounted on the side you're not taking out first.

Here is a picture of my newly installed side art... and yes, "stock" side art had the bolts going through it.

Here is a link to my Punch-Out restore for reference.

Wow Spy, first of all, amazing. I bet that looks better than when it left the factory 26 years ago! My punch out looks IDENTICAL to yours before you did the revamp. Those scuffs on the side of the cab are really irritating. You may have influenced me to do a restore myself. A few questions:

Did you end up peeling off the black vinyl that is stuck to the cab before painting?
If I choose not to buy the new glass bezel, how can I try and buff out the few scuffs in the plexi? (I actually lucked out and my glass isn't in that bad of shape).
To whom did you send, and how much did the repair to your monitor board cost?

Thanks man.

The sides aren't vinyl. It's actualy paint that is baked on. I patched it with Bondo and painted over it.

If your scracthes aren't too bad, you can try polishing them out using Novus 1, 2 and 3.

I sent out the monitor to Chad at arcadecup. All prices are listed on his website.
