So I was looking on CL, and I find this Stargate. Says it was free. So I drive down there to get it today.
Sadly, the boards don't work. But still, it was worth it.
Hopefully I can get this to work... Just tried turning it on, after replacing fuse F5 - a 7A fuse, and I don't get anything on the screen. Will probably start cleaning up the boards tomorrow.

Nice find.. First thing is to check if all of the LEDs on the p/s are lighting up. Chances are they aren't. Power supply rebuild and power related connector replacement are strongly recommended. That cabinet looks good..Stargate is a great one.

i suck at stargate, but that cabinet is in awesome shape. nice score!
Thanks.
I suck at Stargate too. :D

All the LEDs are lighting up, so i'm guessing its got to do with the connectors. Going to see if there are any burnt pins or traces.

I had an issue with it getting various RAM errors that ended up being the ribbon cable between the main and ROM boards. I redid every connector on mine with molex headers and new crimped pins. I don't guess you can really bulletproof these old things, but I think there are some steps to take on the Williams stuff. Oh, do the Bob R lithium battery conversion too.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice.
Also forgot to mention that the monitor is powering up, but there are no sounds or anything on the screen. (Although there is a buzzing noise coming from the speaker, probably just turned up too loud).

You can also check the sound card by pressing the switch at the top. It should make some repeating "Stargate" sound. If you get the repeating sound, that's a good sign. Once you depress the switch, you need to turn off the game to reset the board.

..also, are there any numbers showing up on the LCD on the ROM board? The board should post a "0" when all is well. When there is an problem, you might get an error message like "1-3-1" If you report back on what is posting, we can better help you diagnose the problem.

Congrats on a great catch!

First, there are no 6A fuses in a Stargate. On the power supply it is a 7A, 7A, 4A, 5A, and 1A.

The fit like:

On the sound board, both fuses are 4A. All fuses are slow blow types.

The fact that the LEDs are lit are a good first indication, but you need to test the voltages at the boards and the best place is at the four corners of the RAM chips:

Pin 1 & 16 are on the side with the notch.

It is also good to carefully examine the boards to look for missing chips, scorched pins on connectors. Broken or missing wires.

That's the one we talked about, eh? Nice score the cabinet looks great. Mine had some problems and it turned out to be the ribbon connector. Good luck getting it going,,,

I Love Stargate. Wish mine looked that good. I just rebuilt the control panel now I need to stencil.

Very nice score. Let me know if you need boards, I think I have a complete working extra set.

some people are lucky buggers,a cab like that free in uk?no way, that would have been for sale for £400 or thereabouts.

we never get anything for free here.
:(

And acid damage near the battery holder.

I really miss my Stargate (even though its been 8 or 9 years) I never should have sold it.

Typo. :D I replaced F5.
Guess I'll try the fuses on the sound board and checking the voltages on the 4116s.

And acid damage near the battery holder.

My battery holder also has some corrosion, will probably swap that out as soon as I get enough items for a Bob order.

Thanks. I'll check the Ribbon Cables too.

Its alive!

I finally got around to checking the PS Board. Turns out that the Bridge Rectifier was causing the problem. So I bought one, soldered it on, plugged the connectors on, and realized that one of the connectors was 1 pin to far. It broke a fuse. I replaced the fuse, and moved the connector over, and it started working.

Only problem now is that the sound is very dim. It gradually gets louder when It's been on for a while, so I suspect the caps. Also there are some sounds that sound a bit strange.
I'm going to fix up the old battery holder, and then replace it with Bob's Lithium kit when it arrives.
Any help with the sound would be appreciated.

Just got the sound to turn on...
Looks like it was the Bridge Rectifier on the sound board that wasn't functioning properly; the -12V was coming out as -7V.
Replaced that, and now I have sound.

Not to rain on Bob's parade, but you can get the button lithium cell holders from Radio Shack and any 2" or so piece of wire and you are set to solder.
