Just found a Space Invaders in the trash pickup on the sidewalk
Never lucked into a game like this before.
I got a call from a friend of mine who knew I collected old games, he said there was a Space Invaders machine sitting on the sidewalk in the trash pickup. After work I went and checked it out, and it was still there so I picked it up after checking with the neighbors and verifying they indeed threw it out. Its in rough shape. It has water damage on the bottom, and the machine was standing when my friend saw it but had been knocked over by the time I had gotten out there. The control button plate was ripped out but I found it laying nearby. The monitor is not busted but it looks pretty rough inside. Looks like some cables have been ripped out on the inside. Also, theres a box missing on the front under the coin mech that I think housed the coin retrieval box (new to arcade collecting, only have 2 other machines). On the good side, the control plate I found ripped out still has all the artwork, and the marquee is still in great shape. I plan on cleaning it up this Wednesday, seeing whats missing, maybe attempt to re-run the wiring, and see how bad the damage is. I'd say it might be worthy of my first restore.
I looked on the Space Invaders page here on KLOV, and it looks like the first picture on that page, and is a half-sized cabinet. I'll get some pics up when I pull it in and clean it up a little Wednesday.
