just found a haunted house pinball......questions about mods/fixes

hello.
i just found a haunted house pinball that some people had in their basement........i was wondering what are the mods / fixes that people always reccommend doing to these things.....
i have never thought i would find one of these, but i keep seeing that there is some kind of "ground mods" that everyone always talks about???

anything else that needs updated or normal fixes for these games? this machine works fine but i understand that they are hard to keep running.

the one flipper seems weak. im going to try to bring this inside to work on tonite here. i used to have a black hole and this reminds me how heavy they are!!!

$400.......i used to have a black hole but we could never figure out how to fix it.....ended up selling it long ago.........this haunted hosue is heavy.......im tryign to get it inside my basement tonite to start working on it......i gotta push this car outside that has a dead battery and slide this machine past....

i gotta try and figure where all these connectors go in the head..

the first response the guy says for 500 it will be super reliable..........???

I see... it's one person parroting someone else's incorrect advice. Just like the arcade repair forum :p

Truthfully, there's no way to predict how much YOUR game is going to cost to make reliable but if it's complete, working and you're willing to do the work yourself I would be very surprised if the electronics work added up to $500.

I just picked up one as well. I can't imagine spending $500 on the boards, unless you are buying all new ones. The first thing I have to do on mine is get that old Datasentry battery off of it and clean up some minor corrosion. Then I will remote mount a battery pack. After that I will have to replace all of the pins in the edge connectors. When I pulled the connectors loose from the CPU, some of the pins were stuck to the board and they were damaged. I suspect you may have a similar issue. The ground mod is important. From what I've read you may end up with some floating voltages due to poor grounding. All of the male edge connectors on my cpu board are green. Not so much corrosion as copper oxidation. I will clean and re-tin all of the edge connectors as well. With all of this work, I should have a reliable system and not have much in it at all. (Assuming the board doesn't have a bunch of bad components).

im gonna go try and plug all the connectors in here now......it played fine at the peoples house.......but after assembling it here i noticed 1 burnt small component on the one upper left board in the head....i think it said C7 (not 100 percent sure) near it.......

Be careful. If any of the connectors were damaged when you took them off, they could be shorted when you plug them back in. If they don't want to plug in all the way then there is a problem in the connector.

ok i plugged them all in and it works fine......so far as i can tell.......the top left board in the head has a small part thats burnt......not a diode, resistor maybe? its labeled CR7......
this one normal flipper is very weak but it works.........does this need a new coil.....or maybe a new sleeve? just dirty?

Upgrades are needed on these:

Power supply board.

Driver board.

CPU board.

Pop bumper driver boards.

Driver transistors mounted under the playfield.

Ground mods to prevent coils from locking "on" and burning up.

The costs are not that much, but it's the labor. The improvements are time-consuming to perform.

Check the end of stroke switch first and clean it;. it has to be closed for the flippers to work correct. If the switch is a bit open or dirty, you'll get very weak flippers.

pinrepair.com should teach you everything else to do to get it working and make it very reliable

I agree, if you want to repair/restore that guy then buy the video, it'll teach you everything, show it in detail, and it's funny too :)

clays video is the best way to go, and it's interesting to boot-

Here is video of what i did to mine- Added a red bulb under the clock plastic, green leds and color bulbs to match different areas of the playfield, I was very pleased with the results. Posted a ''wtb'' in rgp and found a repro secret passage plastic for $20, also added a plastic protector for that piece
