hello.
i havent been on klov for awhile (pinball deals are scarce near pittsburgh, pa). but last week i found a very nice working comet pinball machine. 1 of the 4 displays is not working properly.....i will try to explain this.....each digit in the player one display is missing the same 1 small line so you can mostly make out what the score is but not totally. i swapped it with player 4 and it works to play it now...but i have this 1 bad display......
im just curious and trying to learn but is it possible to fix a display like this or should i junk it and look for another one.......
(i dont have much experience with displays from the 80's) other than that it looks like a fun game to play. i dont want to play too many games with the playfield being dirty

Sounds like it's fixable. Generally from what I know as long as the display lights or glows in SOME fashion there's a way to fix it. A lot of times seems to be either connectors or bad solder joints that need to be reflowed. That said, if you absolutely love the machine and you want to go the replacement route, sometimes Todd Tuckey on here sells used glasses that work great as 3p/4p glasses since they're not used very often...they're a little toasted in the middle but still functional..

Or you could go all-out and replace everything with a Pinscore LCD system for around 200$...personally I would try and find a used display...the new ones cost around 50$ anyways.

So yeah, could be out a couple of cents and some time to troubleshoot, or if you go nuts and bulletproof the display system, 200$+.

try swapping displays, if the problem moves with the same display then the glass has issue
if the problem persists with player 1 , then its a board issue,

my opinion is its most likely a bad resistor on either the display board itself, or on the sys 9 board
