Figured I would pop this in here for general geek value. Just finished my first ever cab design and build after 5 months or so of going at it.

For those of you interested in the full build from start to finish the thread is at the BYOAC forums here

It's great, no view problems. The monitor is that angle as it rotates to create a VP machine using the second monitor as the backglass.

So you got the control panel done I see. Last I checked that was the only thing left. Very nice! I'll have to finish reading up the rest of the details.

Yep, 8 hours straight wiring that damn thing up until 4:30am on Saturday morning, don't want to do that again in any hurry

Very impressive, would love a cabinet that could rotate the monitor itself.

Unreal. I'm blown away.

One question. Are you interested in skipping the nag screens at game start/stop? I know it's not as simple as setting the option anymore, but in about 20 min I went from "no way am I compiling MAME myself" to "oh, I can do that". You can also add in high score save again. Or cheats. I forget which was disabled a few revs ago, I don't follow MAME that closely.

Once again, amazing build.

Awesome build. It is stuff like this that has convinced me that the mame cabinet scene has moved well away from trying to graft 4 player panels onto dedicated Pengo cabinets.

Really it is better to just use an older version that the high score saves and cheats worked on. While I appreciate the work of the mame devs, the last 8 years of updates seem to have produced negative progress as far as classic titles are concerned.

This is MAME done right! Great job! Although the flipper buttons seem pretty damn far apart, and why are there 3 on each side?

Hi all, thanks for the generous commments.

I'm still configuring Mame so I've yet to come across the issues you mention. As far as the nag screens, a quick left-right of the joystick and they don't show again for that title, not a biggie.

The pinball buttons are 32" apart, they are lower flipper, upper flipper and nudge for each side. I know there are more functions available for VP but this is very much a casual gaming rig designed to play as many titles as possible without getting all frankenpanel.

For my 'serious' games I plan to stick with original dedicated cabs. I already have my prized posession 'Paperboy' which doesn't even work yet but I know we'll be together forever :p. Hopefully one day I'll own an Ikari Warriors, a Gorf and a TAF pinball so I don't have to simulate or emulate my true favorites.

I would agree, except for the hlsl graphic options. I think the ability to make your LCD panel look pretty dang close to an old CRT is fabulous. I think the devs are working on getting the laserdisc games into standard MAME too.
