Just Bought My First Pinball!

Very good pick up, Jeff! I used to play a whole lot of ES when it was brand new....

From my undertstanding, the first hundred or so had the sinking institute. A gentleman later on had made the mod for the sinking institute for the non-ones....

Your backglass and playfield look in pretty good condition which is a VERY rare thing for this particular pin (especially the backglass)!

I used to have one, but got rid of it, because mine was pretty much a mess and the backglass, honestly, sucked! Good luck on your sale! I kinda miss mine.....

Nice score! I love those Pat Lawlor games. Earthshaker is a great one with the shaker motor and all that business.

Oh believe me, I really appreciate the game. I really want to keep it. I'm trying to sell a couple vids to get the money I need to keep these but I don't think I will. I don't have the $100 to fix this up right now but I figured if I got a decent price I could sell it. Getting a pin has been one of my biggest goals the past year, but finances haven't helped me out much.

Jeff

$1,300 is not a very good price IMO. They usually go for $1K - $1,100 and even then they are fully working which your game is not. $1,050 minus $200 for a shop job and another $150 in parts (plastics, rebuild kits, lamp sockets) $900 was more than fair.

It's one thing to get the machine for a steal then try and resell it for a good price. It's hard to watch you steal the machine then try and gauge people. Maybe add $100 - $150 because the building sinks, but if that mod is really important to you, you can build it yourself.

Not trying to price gouge anyone. Sorry that I came across like that. $900 isn't terrible. Just seeing what else it out there. Nothing wrong with buying low and selling higher, you guys all do that on here whenever you can. That's how we get the cash to work on our restorations you know. Personally I want to keep this machine but I have to raise enough cash to pay for what I paid to get it. I have some URs for sale that if they sell I can probably keep the pinball. I just put a number out there that if anyone really wanted this or if it was a grail to someone then they can make me an offer for it. If not, no loss for me. This is a great game and actually one of my favorites. As I said before I really didn't have the budget to throw $450 at a game right now but couldn't pass it up.

If someone wants it, make me an offer and I'll consider it. I've had PM offers already and I'm just weighing my options. Hey if someone got a free Q*Bert, wanted market value for it, and I had the cash for it I would gladly make an offer without criticizing that they got it for free. Is there a problem with that? If so you'd better start ragging on ANYONE who raids a warehouse or buys off Craigslist then resells. We're all price gougers.

Yah..... no.

1.) Time from bragging on the forum that you found the deal to selling was 3 days. You aren't just selling some game you got cheap, you're flipping the pinball.

2.) IMO, you are asking above market value

3.) There is nothing wrong with trying to make money. Buying low and selling high is just fine. Even if I am wrong about everything else your tact sucks. You have the right to buy a game for several hundred below value, then brag about it, then put it for sale in the same thread above value just 3 days later and then run a quasi-auction in a that same thread that isn't even in the for sale forum.

The guys raiding the warehouses are in the for sale section. They aren't throwing what they paid in peoples faces, and if their prices are out of line the usually learn pretty quick.

Someone DID make an offer. DOUBLE what you paid. You declined it for more money. What you are doing is gouging.

I hope you're not expecting to sell it too fast in here. You'll be better off on eBay or Craigslist. Sorry, but soldering one wire doesn't justify a nearly $1000 increase, even if you believe that fair market value is $1600. Someone also pointed out the math how the $900 offer was more than fair. You will more than likely be sitting on that machine for a bit unless you come back to reality with the price.

On a side note, I have a feeling that I'm not alone when I say that, per your example, if I got a Q*Bert for free and the fair market value was $500, I'd be selling it for $350. Of course, I'd also go through the machine, clean it up and make sure it is fully working. Why? I'd be making a heck of a profit and the buyer would be getting a good deal. BOTH parties would be happy and feel good about it. It would also sell a LOT quicker. Since you stated how you are strapped for the cash, you probably shouldn't let your greed get in the way from a nice 100% profit. Paying it forward... Nothing wrong with it.

Just remember: Karma's a real bitch. Think about it...

Sorry I wasn't trying to make this a nasty flip thread. I've been around here enough that most of you guys who know me know I don't do that crap. My thread was an honest thread. Sorry to offend. I'm done with this thread. I found a buyer for my Frogger a few minutes ago and I am closer to being able to keep the pin. I have a FS thread I started for my vids.

WOW, it's turned to KARMA now huh? Come on guys, you would sell that Q*Bert for $500 in a heartbeat. Don't give me that crap. And don't rip on me about asking for a higher price and taking offers. I'm not saying $100 OBO then having an auction out of it. I'm taking lower offers. Check back on my past thread history if you want to check my KARMA. I've GIVEN AWAY many, many valuable parts for FREE. I NEVER charge too much for what I sell and I trade more than I sell. I've given away a Q*Bert sound board for someone who needed one FOR FREE, Nickel Plated parts FOR FREE for Paperboy controls, given away a 20" BW monitor FOR FREE to someone who collects bronze age games. I've given away a cocktail underlay FOR FREE to someone who could scan and vector it for repro. GIVE ME A BREAK. Some of you guys really don't know anyone on here and just look to rip on someone when you can. I hear it all the time but never had the fun of being a recipient of it.

Keep the KARMA to yourself.

Jeff is a really good guy on here and very helpful.
If you guys don't like what others our doing, there are other ways to go about it.
i think he isn't being dishonest, or out of line. just my 2 cents ;)

Thank Dave! I appreciate it.

I'm sorry that I even posted the price I got it for. So many people ask and I always wonder when people get deals because I'm excited for other collectors to find great buys. I love hearing people get games for free because it's part of the fun of collecting. That's why I added the price. Not to brag. I don't like rubbing people's noses in a good deal.

Yah, and nobody is saying your lying or that you're a bad guy. It's fun to hear about people getting free or cheap stuff. It's also fun to hear about people getting good money for the games, it keeps the value up and we all know how expensive this hobby is. It's a lot less fun to hear about a smoking deal, and then an auction taking place to try and get top dollar on that cheap item. You didn't do anything wrong, or lie or anything, like I said before, just tact is all.

As I said before, I'm sorry if I offended. It was not meant that way.

Where did he brag about the price? He asked if it was a good deal. I don't understand people who think because someone gets a good deal he should give a good deal when he sells it. I've never flipped a game and am not particularly fond of flipping, but he can do whatever he wants with it and doesn't deserve flak from the price police. I say if he can make $850 profit, good for him! And if he's asking too much, he'll find out by not getting offers.

The only problem I have with any of Jeff's posts is his math. Not the math in his markup of the game but the math of how much he thinks it will cost to fix up the game all nice. Replacing the plastic set alone (if you can find one) is over 100 bucks right there. Factor in flipper rebuild kits, and whatever else needs replacing to make it play and look as sweet as possible and you are easily looking at a couple hundred or more.

Nice score Jeff. I actually just saw your CL add for Frogger and Phoenix as I get updates for things in SW Michigan. I then went to your site not knowing it was you and your games. I saw the post about hoping to find your first pin at a garage sale, and then went on KLOV only to see your post about your new pin!

I felt like a mini detective seeing all the dots connect. Above all else, congrats on picking up a cool pin at a good price. I picked up my first pin about 2 months ago and have had a lot of fun with it. That is until the sound went out and it started not reloading the ball, but you know how it goes- now I have to learn things about pins a lot sooner than planned!

Great score though.
