Just another B/W vector repair log (802/V2000 hybrid)

I bought this from a guy in France for a very nice price. A month or two before I had helped him find a couple of nice Neo Geo cabs and a Taito Space Chaser cab so one favor was returned with another :)

It had a G05-802 HV cage and a V2000 deflection board. I didn't know the condition of the monitor but I figured I'd check everything first before powering it up.

Note that I didn't have to replace one cap, I love my Russian cap tester, probably the best piece of equipment I bought for this hobby.

Outstanding cleanup job

And a nice documentation of the process. Great to know the hybrid thing even works. I remember there was doubt at some stage

So have you fired it up? :)

Pics? :) :)

I'm waiting on parts to repair the chassis in my G05-05, so in the meantime I've stuck a V2000 board on.

Strange things though G05s. The tube can vary. The harness on my GO5 expects to find no pins at 4 & 5 of P600:

But as you can see from the pic above, the V2000 board has a pin at 5 ..... Strangely enough, of you bend back pin 5 and chuck the harness on, it all works perfectly well ...

The tubes can vary. Some G05-05s expect (or will take) a signal from pin 5, others don't.

Weird, but useful to know ....

Uh....oops. I have no idea if this set-up ever worked before but .....I hope so ! :S

I was about to hook it up to my Asterock but I had forgotten that Sidam put a different connector on the monitor (and harness)....

Will have to improvise a "bridge" in someway...going to have to be creative, it's just for testing....

OK....I tried to make the simplest "bridge" I could think of....using some solid core wire pieces I had cut up and folded them "in" the connectors. This worked OK on the Sidam (harness) side, but since the monitor has male pins it was impossible to keep them steady and making contact.

So I dug in my parts for pins. I found them, but they were all male too

BUT, I also had female pins for the "Hantarex" type of connectors. Although these are rectangular shaped, they fitted well enough for a short test.

So I crimped the wires and connected everything after having made a table using the info from the Asterock manual and the Electrohome manual.

Thank you Sidam, for using plastic wire clips that will let you remove the harness and put it back again later, it was a piece of cake to get the connectors low enough......I love Sidam more and more ! :D

Sorry, out of focus, but you get the idea... left the Sidam harness connector, right the Electrohome....

Wired it up, checked everything three times and then it was "show time" !
