Just acquired my 1st Machine, Sega Rally Championship.

Hi all please dont bite, just looking for some advice on restoring a sit down twin edition of Sega Rally Championship.

Basically it needs a full restoration and some TLC!!

Has many faults the main 1 being 1 of the screens doesnt work and lack of sound.

As well as lack of use of throttle pedals etc etc.

I bought it for only £250 in the UK, so obviously needs lots of work to restore it to its former glory.

Just wondering if anybody has any advice on where I can acquire some expertise and/ or parts to help me with the project.

Thanks

Lee

Well, first you have to figure out exactly what's wrong with it.

Try plugging the one monitor into where the other one is, to make sure that the monitor is bad... it could be that the gameboard just isn't booting up.

Does the sound work on either side?

First thing I do is fully clean and inspect e game, electrical connections, etc. So many times you can visually see what is wrong, be it loose connections, burned components, frayed cables, etc.

So give it a really good going over, and since you have a double unit, you can do as LyonsArcade suggested and swap parts between the two to debug and locate the bad components.

Start a repair thread, take lots of pics so you can remember where things were before you touched it. ;) plus the folks helping can see what is going on.

Good luck and congrats!

Thanks for the fast reply.

The sound works on both sides when I turn it up, but is just sound static and nothing coming directly from the game as it where.

Thanks so much for the reply guys.

Im going to start the project in a couple of weeks time.

1st thing is just to attempt to try and clean it and identify the parts that I need.

Will post some pictures if thats ok when I get chance :)

Welcome to the club. Im about to give the Best Tip of the Year: There are approximately 642 billion duplicated threads on this site that will all talk about the same thing which is . . "Should I spray or Roll my paint on the Sides?", and of course . . . "How Do I Remove my Control Panel Overlay?".

You'll be amazed how much valuable info is available by clicking on the search tab, and then typing in 2 or 3 keywords.

Good luck with your awesome find! Enjoy it :)

And the best way to use the search is to put a plus sign in the front of each keyword...

+CPO +remove +method

That gets like 7 on-topic threads in the general forum including this one. ;)

Hi guys a quick update, after spending a full weekend on it this weekend I have some amazing news.

Having spent a good 4 hours just cleaning all the dust out from the gameboards etc the only fault I have with it is the lack of sound,!!!

The machines are now both linked together and are working great.

Believe it or not the only reason the 2nd machine monitor wasnt working,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, The board wasnt even plugged in, unbelievable really.

Could be the bargain of the century :)

All I need now is a new set of speakers for underneath the seat and im sorted as the current 1's are an absolute wreck.

Once ive got the sound working ill crack on with getting the scruffy cabinet back to its former glory.

Will attach some pics.

Thanks Lee

Vey Nice! If I told you how much I paid for my Sega Super GT's you'd think that was the deal of the century! ;)

Seeing that you're in the UK you might want to register over at the Jamma+ forums. Most of those guys are on your side of the pond. The website that was linked to earlier belongs to one of the forum members over there.

Welcome to your new addiction! And these forums too. :D
