Just when I get one problem fixed, another immediately takes it's place. When I turn on the machine, it performs a ball search right after testing the t-rex and the display reads "1 ball missing". Only problem is that all the balls are there and accounted for. It performs several ball searches before it let's you play, and then because it thinks a ball is missing, it compensates by releasing 4 balls on a 3 ball multiball. Multiball still ends as it should after losing 2 balls, but that still leaves 2 balls on the playfield, which creates more frustration. Any ideas what might be the cause?

are they in the 6-slot ball return trough? or are they elsewhere when it starts up?

i know on my JP i have a problem every once in a while with a ball getting "lost" underneath between the t-rex and the upkicker near the right return....if the upkicker fails to get it up there, it'll sit underneath and act as a cork of sorts (backs up everything and won't let anything get to upkicker).

when that happens, it'll search for the "missing ball" but typically does not find it.

Go over your ball trough switches, a good chance at least one is flaky and doen't work until a few balls roll over it.

And be sure nothing on the top of the coin chute area is hitting the lugs on the ball trough switches.

And check if at rest, each switch has a ball parked on top of it.
LTG :)

Did some checking and it's definitely the roller device 2nd over from the left. I've rolled a ball over it several times, but it doesn't want to register when they're all sitting there. Am I outta luck?

Having had two JP'S over the years a (including my current) I know the pains of data east. They work excellent IF you take care of all the nags.

Here are things to check for reliable operation:

The rollover switches are a problem on that trough. make sure each one ''clicks'' so that it registers. DO NOT bend the switches, make sure they are straight like a new switch would be. Bending switches will make one or two of the balls not travel smoothly and hang up, making ''ball missing'' It also does not hurt to take them off and clean the roller switch because these tend to get dirt on them , thus they don't roll smooth!

Another thing to do, but more involved is the TROUGH

Take the trough out by disconnecting the wires and such, you will notice little dents/divets where the balls sit normally. This is not good, no matter how level your game is, the balls WILL hang up on those and make the balls not roll to their correct positions, leaving a rollover switch ''unclicked'', and ''ball missing''. Use sand paper or a tool and smooth out the trough= PROBLEM SOLVED

When that is done with, other problems to note mostly have to do with the hole switches. Make sure they operate like they should and if not replace the switch.

Hope this helps. Thanks, James
